I don't normal write reviews, but this one needs it. My experience with the decision to buy one of these would have been greatly improved if the descriptions did a better job of setting the expectations. I've had this little guy long enough to figure it out. It took some getting used to. I learned that they aren't designed to be used like a regular lawn mower where you spend an afternoon once a week mowing, edging, and trimming. They're best used in a "continuous" mowing operation where three trimming and edging are the only thing you have to do manually once a week. I've used my robot on two lawns. One was pretty large, mostly weeds, with a chain link fenced. The other one was small, unbounded, and residentially established. The mower does great on both. The robot doesn't mulch they way a traditional mower does. Instead, it's designed to take off a fraction of an inch each time it mows. It's designed to run on a weekly schedule ranging from one time on a set day of the a week up to several times each a day. This particular model (OcuMow R1600) uses a combination on visual sensors and GPS. The visual sensors literally look for the boundaries of the grass. It's designed not to beyond where it thinks there's grass. My machine found its way into a bare spot and stopped until I put it back on the grass. It does alert you through the app when/if it runs into a problem (gets stuck, crosses a boundary, runs out of battery, etc.). I bought the model with the automatic recharging base station to handle my larger property. I've had mixed results. It can't always confidential find the base station before it runs out of charge. I think it uses GPS to find the base station. Unfortunately, I don't think it actually builds a map but tries to find a direct path to the base's coordinates. My larger yard has a few obstacles that get in the way of the direct path approach. When it encounter an obstacle, it randomly changes direction. It seems to be hit or miss as to whether it can find a clear path. Another thing to be aware of is that it won't cut all the way to the edge of the grass. It leaves about an 8" boarder at all the edges. I use a light weight weed eater to cut and edge the boarders independent of the mowing. The biggest problem I ran into was that the battery would overheat while charging in the direct sunlight (mid-day in July in Northern Arkansas). When this happened, it broke the recharging cycle until I intervened. Strategically moving the base to a shady area or adjusting the schedule probably would have solved the problem. Mowing multiple sections is easy. It has a "drop-and-mow" mode for use without the base station, or you can easily move and reset the base station. There are several other nuances to using one of these things. Once I got used to them, the mower was pretty cool and a real time saver. I suspect that this product has a lot of mixed reviews because a lot of people try to make this square peg fit into a round hole.

Setup is a bit of a pain if you have many undefined spaces in your yard- you've got to block them off with the provided wire or it'll try to mow over your borderless flower bed. Once all the wires are set up and docking station out, it's pretty stinkin cool to watch this guy mow your lawn. Best for smaller yards that don't have the bunnies. Overall performance is decent- what you would expect from a battery powered mower. It won't run through foot tall grass, but as long as you stay on top of your mowing needs it'll get the job done. Value is decent, but since the deck is so skinny, it takes at least two charges to do a decent sized lawn. Relatively quiet and easy to adjust cutting length. Looks kinda cute moving around the back yard!

I really wanted to like this robot mower because the hardware itself shows some promise. It's whisper quiet while running, the cutting performance is perfectly adequate for maintaining an already-short lawn, and assembly was quick and straightforward. Unfortunately, the software and navigation are what ultimately let it down. Setup isn't difficult, but the requirement to use magnetic boundary strips quickly becomes a headache if your yard isn't already enclosed by sidewalks, fences, or other physical barriers. The included magnetic tape is enough for only a very small area, so if you have a larger yard or several areas you need to block off, expect to purchase quite a bit more. That adds both cost and setup time. Once mowing starts, the biggest disappointment is how the mower actually navigates. Despite advertising optical navigation and showing a GPS indicator, it seems to rely almost entirely on a random driving pattern. Instead of mowing in an organized back-and-forth pattern, it wanders around unpredictably. Over enough time it will eventually cut most areas, but it's an inefficient approach that leaves obvious missed spots unless you let it run for a very long time. The obstacle detection also needs work. The sensors are overly sensitive and can mistake taller grass, weeds, or even leaves for obstacles, causing the mower to stop or change direction unnecessarily. If I have to clean up every leaf and manually trim problem areas before sending the robot out, it defeats much of the convenience I'm looking for in an autonomous mower. I also wasn't impressed with the return-to-base behavior. During testing, the mower struggled to locate the charging station even from a relatively short distance with a clear path. It wandered around for an extended period before I eventually placed it directly in front of the dock, where it connected immediately. The spiral mowing mode also feels like a missed opportunity. Rather than continuing until it reaches an obstacle or finishes a meaningful area, it only spirals briefly before switching back to its random pattern. It seems like the software is limiting what could have been one of its more useful features. Overall, I think this mower has decent cutting power and is pleasantly quiet, but the onboard sensors and software hold it back. Navigation is inconsistent, obstacle avoidance is unreliable, and the reliance on magnetic boundary strips makes installation much more involved than I expected for anything beyond a very small, well-defined yard. If you have a simple, enclosed lawn it may work well enough, but for most properties I think there are better robotic mowing options available.

After a bit of a rough start, this robot lawn mower has really earned its keep this summer. When run daily, it keeps the lawn trimmed to a freshly-mowed state all season long. When the lawn mowing season started this year, I installed the mower charging station and set up the mower. It was pretty easy to set it up and get it going. The grass was too long, and I soon discovered that this mower is not designed to cut long grass. So I cut it short with my gas-powered mower, and turned the robot loose again. It has kept the grass short ever since. It's very quiet, most of the time we don't even know it's running. Over the first few weeks, the mower often got hung up in high and low spots in my yard. But after those few weeks, the hang-ups got less and less, and now it really doesn't ever get hung up anywhere. My yard is very well defined, with fences and edges. But I did have an occasion to use the magnetic strips to keep the mower away from underground markings and flags, and they worked flawlessly. If you have a yard with well-defined edges, with either fences, edging, or other markings, this mower will work very nicely. It mows daily for 8 hours every day. The mowing pattern is very random, so don't expect it to go back and forth in nice straight lines. But at the end of the day, my lawn is nicely mowed, and I don't have to do it! At this price point, I feel that this mower is well worth it, and I can use my time doing other things.

Midwest Mike nailed it. He hit every one of my complaints. So I won't waste time in repetition. I have a small, fenced-in dog yard, but currently no dog. Can't get my lawn tractor through the gate, and my 30 year old walk-behind finally died. Yard is maybe 30 X 100 ft. So I bought the cheapest robot mower I could find. Big mistake. Chinese crap.

This does not work as expected. It takes forever to mow a tiny space. The section in the photo took at least three hours last night and I still needed to trim the 6 to 8 inches close to any boundary, including the sidewalk, the driveway and the street. It requires magnet lines to be laid out between mine and my neighbors yard all the way around my property, which is not that large, but still way more hassle than expected. Barely makes a noise which is great. The charge seems to hold up for at least an hour and a half or two hours. It does not stay connected to Wi-Fi and has trouble connecting to Wi-Fi unless everything is right together and obviously I can’t keep my modem outside.

Easy to set up and keeps your yard manicured and looking nice. It doesn't do well on overgrown lawns, so it needs to be run regularly, but it absolutely does the job well. Now the only thing I need to do is edge my property every other week. well worth the price for not having to go out and mow the yard myself on these 100+ degree summer days. I just keep the yard debris-free and sit back and watch it work from the window.

They seemed to have listened to some feedback on the older model. That's something really nice to find in a company supporting their products or at least trying to improve for the future. The mower now does a good job with getting closer to the edge. The older model would avoid it pretty specifically, which was a bit on an annoyance. This makes this much more functional as a replacement as opposed to a helper while mowing. They have included more magnetic strip. Which is essential if you want to keep it out of areas that it shouldn't be. The boarder detection works fairly well, but if you need to keep it away from larger slopes or things like that then you need the magnetic strip. When putting down the strip, do use the included clips and kind of just lay it on top of the ground. I thought I'd be able to get away with digging it a few inches down and covering it over, that didn't work for me. Blades are easy to change, keep in mind they are still supposed to swing when you have them properly attached. I was glad to see a bonus pack of blades and screws come with the unit. It was tough finding out which other brands worked with this brand for a reasonable price. That being said, unless they hit things, they seem to stay sharp a good long time. So more of a maintenance than a thing you need to change all the time. Much like a regular mower blade. Maybe I haven't figured it out, but the app I'd still like to see more of a drive a remote control car style interface. Hopefully something like that will be pushed in the future. The pictures I took, one the battery, if you have a really big yard, you may want to get an extra or a backup. The nice part about these batteries is that they are interchangeable through their line of yard tools. At least the ones I've found. While you want enough batteries for each device, well I don't need my tiller battery while I'm mowing, so I can swap if needed and I haven't charged them. The robot does a pretty good job of finding the base. Not like how old robot vacuums couldn't find the base. That's helpful. I think it might send a pretty good signal out to it when it is looking to recharge. Living with close neighbors means you have obstacles that other more wide open spaces may not have to deal with. Do buy more magnetic strips and batteries if you find them. The robot itself, seems pretty robust for such a plastic unit, I feel if well kept it will probably give quite a few seasons of use. Minimally it'll keep your yard looking a bit more kept if yo don't have time to mow or do yard work. That in itself makes it well worth it. After a few mows, this pays for itself compared to having someone mow it for you. So pretty much anything past a season is money back in your pocket, especially if you were someone considering paying a service. Good mid tier lawn mowing robot.
