Lamp arrived in perfect condition. Liquid is perfectly clear (orange in this case) not cloudy at all. No dents in the base. I saw several negative reviews before purchase. Please understand what you are buying when you purchase a Lava lamp. They look really cool, but they take HOURS to heat up enough for the wax to flow. Lava lamps are not a normal light. You have to know what you’re getting into before you have and use one. There are days and hours that I make a conscious decision not to turn it on, won’t be on long enough or might neglect it. These need literally a few hours to get going, but if you were to leave it all day, it will start to crisp up and get ruined (as a teen, I had two and ruined one by being on too long). I purchased this lava lamp as a birthday gift for my son, as his favorite color is yellow. Unfortunately, unlike with the other lava lamp we own (bought at Target), the wax in this lava lamp doesn't move; it just collects at the bottom of the vessel. Even when shaken, the wax breaks down into tiny globs, eventually depositing again on the bottom, forming a large blob (see picture). My oldest son wanted a lava lamp and this was perfect! His favorite color is yellow and he loved the record groove detailing. The first time it took around 4-5 hours for the lava to work but once it did it was awesome to watch! Definitely recommend this one! The yellow is a nice warm ambient light.

The 25 watt light bulb produces the heat required to make the lamp wax rise and very pretty. The light bulb also heats the base. My guess is about 140F. I put a large heat resistant coaster underneath the base to prevent possibility of the heat affecting my wooden end table. This is the second lava lamp I have ordered and both bases get hot. The bulb that came with these burnt out within a couple hours. Purchased 2 different lamps from same maker and the bulbs in both burned out within a couple hours of my kids turning them on. They were Christmas presents so it was disappointing for them. They finally warmed up for them to see them working for a short while but they both stopped working and found that the bulbs both burnt out. Not cool. ... show more

Overall, the lamp works as advertised — no issues with functionality. The wax flows nicely, and the heating element seems reliable. However, I have a few Chinese lava lamps at home that are noticeably better in a few ways, despite being cheaper. First, they come with built-in dimmers, which allow you to control the brightness and the behavior of the wax — a feature I really miss here. Second, the body of those lamps feels sturdier and more aesthetically pleasing. This one has a very thin, soft aluminum casing that feels a bit flimsy by comparison. Maybe the wax formula here is superior or longer-lasting — time will tell — but at this price point, I expected more. Not a bad product, just not better than cheaper options. ... show more
