I really like the product, one additional add on feature I would recommend is some type of soft sleeve that goes over the combination lock to keep it from scratching the roof of your car. I duc-taped a soft rag to the cable and wrap the lock in it. Also the carrying bag could be a bit larger to accommodate the rolled up cables. ... show more

    • Made for longer kayaks
I read all of the reviews on ama on as we as REI mostly poor reviews but went ahead and purchased anyway due to needing a good lock. Delivery was timely. Locks seem very sturdy and too thick to cut and won’t scratch kayak but it does not fit on our Costco 13 foot tandem kayaks at all, it literally falls off The ends when locking. Once locked it also falls off. Seems like a great lock for longer kayaks. It works Ok as a deterrent But only if you can keep the lock from falling off. If your kayaks are skinny and longer than 13ft it might work well. I am Returning and figured out how to use a smaller lock thru the drain hole which cost me $9. ... show more

Easy to use on my dads touring kayak along with my recreational kayak (just have to make sure it’s tight). I stopped by my sisters in jersey city for a few days and had to leave the kayak on top of my car so I got this incase anyone wanted to try to take it. Seemed like a good design but there is a big issue with the cylinder mechanism. When attempting to lock the kayak, the cylinder popped out in my hand while pulling the two ends together to lock it. There is no way to get back together. Even if I could, I seriously question the security and integrity of this product. IMO, it has a major design flaw despite the robust cable.     • Kind of annoying set up but once it’s set super easy to use.
I wrap the slack lock line around a rooftop basket or the rack posts and have no problems. The line is more than long enough to fit a 12 foot kayak. Feels secure.
