For the price, this is an amazing piece of technology. Aside from an annoying quirk when using attachments like the slide extension and the rotary extension, with regard to getting a good handshake with between the laser, the attachment and the software, this affordable laser works as advertised. As for figuring settings out vs having a cheat sheet that helps you gauge settings need for various materials, I for one like tinkering and feel it helps me better understand the capabilities of my machine. I have joined a couple of online forums with other LP2 users, and this is also helpful when getting to know this machine and all the cool things it can do.

This is my first laser. I've never used one or watched anyone use one prior to this (aside from videos). First and foremost, this thing is NOT intuitive. The laser does NOT come with any instructions except for how to assemble it. There is no guide for how to setup the laser for different materials. Yes, you can play with it and test a bunch of pieces but that's just a waste of time and material. There should be guides that tell you what power level to use, what depth and what speed is required. These charts do exist for other models but not the LP2 PLUS (not that I've found yet). I shouldn't have to search and search and search to find this info. I wrote to LaserPecker and they responded within 24 hours. They are in China so there's a time difference (I'm in USA). They do their best to answer questions but the answers aren't always clear and they only answer some of the questions. They sent me a material guide written in Chinese and told me to use a computer to translate it. That was a slow and painful process. I could only copy small portions of this chart at one time. I then pasted it into a translator and then copied and pasted that into a new file. I did this about 30 times to get everything copied. That's absurd when I spent over $1,000 for this machine. There are words/terms in the app that aren't common (intuitive) such as "dither". I now know that this is a common word in arts and graphics but I'm not an artist or designer. Again, there are NO instructions explaining any of this. I finally got the laser to engrave my brand into my woodwork. It looks great but it should've been a lot easier. I shouldn't have to search to figure this out. It worked beautifully once I got the settings adjusted properly. I don't know why they don't provide a real instruction manual with these lasers. I think I'll be happy with it in the long run but getting there will be frustrating. Maybe I'll create some YouTube videos for those that have never done laser engraving before (like me). If I get to that point, I will make it a very elementary video so newbies, like me, can understand it.
