I owned one of these many years ago from a different company, but it was a dinosaur compared to this model. I was able to do my underarms and some patches on my legs before it died out, and back then it was almost $500 to buy them. I'm 60 now and while it has been great to not have to shave my underarms, I have had it with shaving my legs and paying for razors every month. I was worried about buying this IPL because the price is so much lower than my first unit (you get what you pay for right? Wrong) but wow, it is so much better than the one I owned years ago. I am doing my legs and it is working so well that I bought another one for my 20-something daughter. Here are some tips from someone who has used 2 different machines over 20 years: It's addicting, resist the urge to use it more than every 3 days, you want to time it with your hair growth cycle. I do the automatic set at lvl 3, and move it slightly after 2 flashes. Don't get discouraged when you see new growth, you have many follicles that grow at different times. You are going to miss some each time, but you will get them next time. Gently use a dry loofah from ankle to knee to help loosen and remove the dead hair between treatments. Yes, you do need to shave before treatments, but I only do it once a week. I totally agree with their schedule of twice a week for 4 weeks, then once a week for 4 weeks, then as needed. I have done no maintenance on my underarms for 20 years because, honestly, they haven't needed any. I am really hoping leg maintenance will be minimal. ... show more

"Buying this device has been a huge quality of life improvement for me. I have fair skin and thick, dark body hair all over my arms, legs, toes, etc. I used to get severe razor burn shaving my thighs, no matter WHAT I tried—and I tried everything. There are some patchy areas around my body that stubbornly refuse to get zapped, but I went from needing to shave daily to shaving once every other week max, and only before my sessions (which I’ve reduced to biweekly). I keep my eyes closed and turn my head away the entire time I do this, so for me, the extra caution is just wasting my time. Frankly, no one should be looking at the machine when it flashes to begin with, and yet, even with the safety feature, I’ve had this stupid thing flash OFF THE SKIN on accident before. I do not feel pain when using this machine. I feel this machine is gentle. I tried similar machine from my friend, and I felt a little pain when light flashed. But not on this machine. This machine has usage count. I think it is nice. I am happy to have my own machine with fair price.
