The laser works fine for about the first 2-3 minutes of the cut, however it starts to skip steps after moving for any longer period of time. I spent some time checking the different parts of the machine, and it appears that the Y axis stepper driver is overheating very quickly. I tried lowering the current on the stepper driver, but at that point it cannot produce the torque needed to move the gantry. I ended up replacing the drivers with some TMC2208's that I had lying around (very overkill, but they are what I had), which fixed the problem since the drivers actually have proper heatsinks. I also added a small fan to blow air over them for good measure just to make sure they are fine. Aside from the driver issues, the laser itself is perfectly fine. It seems to output a genuine 10W, which is enough to do some fast engraving and cutting of thinner wood and some plastics (with ventilation of course). I have even been able to engrave stainless steel and actually cut some very thin shim stock when the laser was properly focused. The laser doesn't have a real air assist, but the strong blower fan combined with the air duct/laser shield does a good job at directing enough air into a cut to actually burn through a material. Finally, the software leaves some things to be desired. It is not bad by any means, but it does not work with DXF files, which makes it difficult to cut designs generated from a CAD file without going through an additional conversion step. It also has very minimal tools, and no support for layering multiple files together. I ended up just deciding to use lightburn with the laser, since I already have it for a couple of other machines. TLDR~~ Okay machine, needs better stepper driver cooling, software could use some work.

I will return to finish my review, but LOOK! Buy a decent ($15) pair of safety goggles, you are welcome! Attached photo shows supplied safety goggles, I swear, there was a can of spray paint involved! Everything else about this laser is quality. Seriously! Now, if the App coders could make the thing easier to operate… GET THE GOGGLES! The second photo is why I returned the item for replacement. The controller drivers heat up too much and the laser gantry starts missing steps! It starts out fine, but within 5 minutes the machine completely loses its mind! I thought it was something I might have done during assembly and setup, but so many other reviews mention the same problem. In fact, the seller provided replacement drivers with no explanation, but I don't do electrical assembly, so I let Amazon Prime make sure I got the replacement. If the second machine has the same issue, I will get a full refund and buy a brand-name laser engraver as there is absolutely no customer support for this complex and glitchy machine. I will return in a week to update my review. Update - The replacement works nicely, and thank you to Amazon Prime and the seller for a seamless return. I worked in engineering, these laser cutters are fairly solid mechanically, the electronics must make it through burn-in, if you don't do this, the customer becomes the Beta-tester, and we hate that. Leaving a laser smoke trail, will return if... Oh - lastly, and important - strap the laser to the gantry, the design sucks, it allows the laser module to 'flap' 1/8 inch under torque.

The assembly took maybe 30 minutes and it was easy to put together. The laser mount is not solid and floats around. It has not caused a problem so far, but I will eventually be designing and 3D printing a part to make that more stable. The setup with Lightburn was pretty simple since the board is an MKS DLC32 running GRBL. I ran into the same problem that another reviewer had in that the stepper drivers overheat and start skipping steps. Luckily I had a couple of spare TMC2209 drivers which are drop-in replacements for the garbage A4988 that it comes with. Immediately the machine worked correctly and I was able to do some engraving and cutting. The only downside of the beefy TMC2209 drivers is that they are too tall to fit in the stock location using the lid that comes with the machine. I found some good DLC32 case designs on Thingiverse that are much better than the two plastic panels that mount the board.
