I tried this laser engraver out because I did not want to purchase a extremely expensive CMC machine or something like that. Some of these engravers get into the thousands. after a slight learning curve I was able to produce some amazing pieces. The original thought was to use it to laser mark an image onto the wood so I didn't have to transfer it by hand. Then I would burn it by hand as if I drew the image on myself. Usually laser engravers don't give a whole lot of depth without cutting far into the wood. However, that was not the case with this. I still like the look of a handmade wood burning but this thing was able to produce some amazing pieces that I would even consider hanging in myself. My neighbor has an extremely expensive laser engraver that cost thousands. This little guy I'm willing to say matches if not beats the quality of his engraver. Every once in a while, but not very often the laser moving at the very start can get jammed up. As long as you don't walk away immediately as you're starting it you'll catch it in time before any damage is done to the wood. But I've made a huge amount of products with this so far and it's only happened to me less than a handful of times, three maybe four. I did not deduct a star for that because to be honest, there's a good chance it's user error. :) haha Without question if this thing ever breaks I will not hesitate to replace it with the same one again.

This should be the standard for DIY laser engravers. I was reading about Otur on the Laser GBRL website (the free engraving software) and they basically said that of all the cheap Chinese kits, Otur is actually a great company that innovates and improves their product. So that was a good sign. Putting it together took a little work. I watched the video and had to pause and rewind a lot, but it wasn't too painful. Took about 45 minutes. Took me a little while to dial in the process and not get skipping. IF your laser is skipping, you're going to fast. You need to do a lot of adjusting and find the right speed combos. I have had frustrations, but figured things out and I can get a really nice deep, dark burn on Oak wood in about 25 minutes for a large and detailed engraving. Very nice quality and super sharp if you are using a vector file. The laser is extremely powerful, and I have burned many many pieces now and it seems to be just as strong as the day we got it. If you're fretting over which cheap laser engraver to get, this is the one.

I never write reviews and I often ignore the ones that say "DO NOT ORDER". I'm writing this one because several of my children went together to buy this unit for another sibling. We ended up moving and only got it set up after the move (big mistake). It didn't work. Wouldn't burn in all quadrants and then would stop and burn holes in the wood. Contacted support, only to receive an e-mail stating that the company was in flux and nobody knew who was handling support. Somebody did eventually write me and try to help. Turns out the unit was bad when it arrived (admitted by the company). They shipped me replacement parts, free of charge. They arrived and DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. In the meantime, they had closed my ticket, even though the issue wasn't resolved. I reached out again only to receive an e-mail stating that the support site on the Ortur website was no longer valid and they weren't sure who was handling support, but try "these two e-mail addresses". I wrote. Received no response. Wrote again and was told to go to Amazon and contact the seller who sold me the unit on Amazon because ortur.net couldn't help. Funny... the seller on Amazon was Ortur.net. When I try to get support, it sends me to the folks that are saying to go Amazon. Bottom line, my kids are out several hundred of their hard earned money because by the time they finished running me around and waiting on replacement parts, I couldn't send it back. IF you order this unit, check it and send back to amazon immediately if it doesn't work. Ortur currently has NO support and will only give you the run around. I've been working to resolve this issue since last November and it is now mid january with no resolution in sight. UPDATE: Ortur has now responded on here (Amazon) to contact them as they would like to help. This response is AFTER I’ve been writing them since last October (coming up on 5 months). They’ve told me three times after talking back and forth for two weeks to write to a different address after saying repeatedly they would help. I email the other address and receive NO response. The last email I received - again telling me to contact the email address that never receives a response - told me to “have a nice life”. I’m choosing to believe this is a language issue and not as rude as it sounds but they have still done nothing.
