I also like that you can roll it up for storage and secure it with the velcro. It also has a hole on the top of it to hang it up. It's a soft silicone material, so it rolls up to store easily and has a velcro tie to hold it. It also has a hole in the top to hang the mat. I really like that when I'm in a hurry, I can quickly roll up my curling iron inside the mat and I'm ready to take it with me while on a trip! I picked up this silicone mat cause my teens are always resting their straighting irons and curling wands anywhere in the bathroom and I'm afraid they'll hurt themselves or start a fire. This mat is made of a flexible silicone so you can roll it to store it, or you can hang it. I turned my straightening iron on to 450 Fahrenheit and rested it in the mat for 5 minutes after it came to temp. The mat itself felt slightly warm, but was in perfect condition, and the surface underneath didn't feel warm to the touch. This mat is also big enough that you could rest two hot tools on it at once if you needed to (which we apparently need to do). This is a fantastic item that I never even knew I needed. ... show more

I have never owned one of these and was excited to get it. I thought the silicone would be thicker, like the thickness of a silicone pot holder. It's not, which is actually a good thing. If it was any thicker it would be hard to wrap around a styling tool for storage, and this thinner mat does its job just fine. When using the mat the surface underneath did not get hot. I use this silicone mat in the kitchen for various purposes including putting heated pots aside or as a quick ladle/spatula rest. The mat is food grade silicone so it should be safe! The wavy texture helps liquids and foods from dripping out of the mat as well. And once done, the mat is very easy to clean and can be rolled up (or hanged) to store without taking up space.
