So unfortunately I had to return this item because after I installed it, there was no longer enough room for me to walk through the door space. I would have to turn sideways to get through. But let me tell you this door is great! The install and directions were going to be so easy and the ability to be able to open the door up is unmatched. I was so bummed that I wasn't able to keep this product. If you are looking for a doggie door, this is the one. Just make sure you pay attention to the measurements of the dog panel flap and the entire insert. Highly recommend.

Update: Seller contacted me after writing my review and made the situation right. Giving additional stars for the excellent customer service! Thank you! Pro: Looks nice, big, relatively easy to install. Cons: lots of huge gaps once installed, plastic piece holding the flap broke on the first day. Recommendation: DO NOT TAKE THE DOOR OFF THE HINGES ONCE YOUVE INSTALLED THE FRAME. The size of the gap between the frame and the door was bothering me so I removed the door to hopefully adjust the hinges to close up the half inch gap all around the door and the frame. It was nearly impossible to reinstall the door back onto the hinges since the alignment was off. That plastic piece that is used to sandwich the flap between it and the other piece screwed into it breaking was very frustrating. I wanted to contact the seller to hopefully get a replacement part because I wasn't about to remove the whole thing and ship it out for a return but there was absolutely no way to contact the seller. I ended up just buying industrial strength adhesive and it's held up for the last week since I've stuck it on. This plastic piece should be metal.

We bought this dog door because we rent and did not want to cut a hole in the side of the house. Our landlord would have been ok with that but we didn’t want to have to patch it when we move. This door is fantastic. It opens up to make the door wider. The sliding door latches to it for a lock. The only downside is there isn’t enough weather stripping but that is easily fixed. This is a great option! Please excuse the dirty window. It’s the country. Nothing stays pristine out here but the air!

this was definitely a permanent install which we were not expecting, and when it was all said and done it did not line up evenly with the existing door leaving a large gap and there is some light weather stripping in the box in case that occurs, but in Minnesota it is certainly not enough. This door also has a lock mechanism on top and bottom that need to be undone anytime you want to exit through the door unless you are quite thin. all around it was just not what we were expecting from the description.

The plastic flap to the door broke within 1 month of having it. There are terrible gaps between the doors even with the weather stripping that causes drafts and raises our heating bill. The latch which is supposed to allow the door the be opened to allow full access of our sliding door again works <20% of the time and is consistently getting jammed so we can’t use this feature much.

This is my honest review and helpful hints. We bought three other dog doors for our sliding glass door before buying this one. We should have bought this door FIRST! Here's our install experience and helpful hints. 1) We first tried to install the door on the center rail our sliding glass door uses. That did not work for us. We had a hard time getting the swinging hinges to meet up correctly. We ended up installing the door framein the space just past the center rail and the door worked perfectly. We would have installed it in the space before the center rail, but our sliding glass door frame was too narrow there. Hint: We felt the space in front of or behind the center rail gave the door frame more stability. 2) Gaps!! Ok let's be real here...there are going to be gaps where the doors meet. Honestly, there's gaps on your sliding glass door when it closes without the dog frame there. You just don't see it because there's a good inch and a half of door framing hiding it. To help with the gaps you're going to need weather shipping. In the pictures we used a couple different strips of weather stripping, one on the dog door that then meets up with a second piece on our sliding glass door. There's also a photo with a green circle around a screw that screw adjusts your screen door either up or down to help with gaps... Well it did on our door. Lol Easy fix. 3) Additional weather stripping to the inside of the door. You'll see some photos where we have a white weather strip that help to keep any cold air out. It's attached to the frame and not to the door itself so if we open the door it stays in place. 4) every question we had, we emailed the company and they were super responsive. Usually by the next day I had an answer and even photos and suggestions. They were really great!!!

I used to hate having to open and close the door for my cat and this changed everything. Although my cat has to get used to it, it surprisingly fit with my sliding door and works well. It is good quality and didnt take long to set up and opens up too if i want to have the whole door open.

The installation was easy and straight forward. Our 2 cats loved to have access to the 3-season porch. It worked well when air conditioning was on even when very hot out there. They liked it into the fall and liked to get out in the cool porch. The problem was when it got below 20 degrees or so (Minnesota) and the heat went thru the single pain glass and our porch totally iced up in about 2 days. I used a hand thermometer on it and the glass temp was 10 degrees colder (or more at times) than the sliding door glass. Had to take it out for the winter, but am looking forward to spring to reinstall it for the pets.
