Easy to assemble. I did it while in great pain and under the influence of prescription drugs, so it oughta be a breeze for someone who is sober and not hurting. Seems to be sturdy enough. I like how easy it is to put on and take off, as I may not have room to store the ladder with this unit attached. I see no warts or goofs in the design, TBH, and I am a retired engineer with picky tastes in mechanical design and in manufacturing quality. This is well-designed and well-manufactured. The hardware has a few unused holes, perhaps for accessories or options? These are not explained in the manual, this could be mildly confusing to some users.

I have a long history of learning things the hard way.Recently I was putting a metal roof on my shed on a very hot day and got dehydrated to the point of having severe muscle cramps anytime I used any muscle. Hands, feet, abs, lower back,legs or arms. To top it off I was working alone. Yep, lots of world-class stupid that day. I knew there was no way to safely use the laddder to get off the roof because I had set it up in an unstable way. I wasn't a super genius that day but I do learn from my mistakes. I ordered a :Ladder-Max and used it to finish the roof this past weekend. This is a great product for what I was doing. I set the ladder so that the max ladder pads were against the side of the shed to do trim work and on the roof to finish the roof. I followed advice from another reviewer and put a cheap mat from Home Depot (get a thin door mat with non-slip rubber backing on one side and indoor/outdoor carpet on the other. I think mine is a TrafficMASTER-Enviroback-Charcoal-60-in-x-36-in-Recycled-Rubber Door Mat) on the roof to set the pads on. Not only did the mat protect the roof, it kept the ladder solidly in.place and provided solid footing for me when getting on and off the roof. The only downsides I encountered were minor. As stated in another review the sheet metal edges are sharp and need to be smoothed. Also seems likely you will wear the pads quickly if you are not careful. Although the product is light putting it at one end of an extension ladder has leverage working against you, making the ladder a little awkward to move. Still I consider it to be an important piece of safety equipment that I will always use when using an extension ladder. As far as compatibility goes, I was not using a regular extension ladder. Instead, I was using one of those ladders that are designed to be used in a lot of different configurations, i.e., a "multi-position ladder". After assembly, the Ladder-Max only takes a few seconds to put on the ladder or to remove it. One reviewer said that Ladder-Max does not work with the really thick rungs and I believe that. For standard size rungs, though, it does not matter whether they are round, square, triangular, or whatever profile. One more thing. The Ladder-Max seems a bit over-priced but I consider it to be a bargain compared to being seriously injured.

This is one of those essential add-on purchases for anyone who has climbed up a ladder wondering when the day would come when the gutters gave way or the ladder slid and a hard landing back to earth was an inevitable outcome. I bought this product for an old Little Giant ladder. The product was fairly easy to assemble and appears to be of solid quality. Once assembled the stabilizer is easy to secure. The arms of the stabilizer are flared out enough to provide a stable and comforting experience when high up. The rubber tips appear of solid quality and although they may wear down over time, the amount of use for my needs will be low. Therefore, the the tips should last for years. There is probably approximately 20" of clearance which makes cleaning gutters much easier. One of those products that may not get used alot, but it is so nice to have on hand when those trips up to the roof are required.

+1 - Arrived on time, and not damaged +1 - Item is as described +2 - Item functions as described, and is really well made -1 - Cost Thoughts: For what it is, it's pretty expensive. It was also a bit to put together, so don't expect to open the box and slap this on your ladder. It will take 10-20 minutes to put together depending your skill level. Putting on and taking off of the ladder is not too bad. Do understand that this adds a bit of weight to your ladder. I was used to handling my 24' ladder by myself and positioning it. With this on, I need an extra person to spot the ladder while I held it and extended it. Taking off the house also became a 2 person job - to ensure it was done without any accidents. Once it was up on the house, I could easily slide it side to side, but putting up and taking down needs a second person. I'm also not 6' 250lbs, so perhaps if you're a bigger person you could handle it a bit better on your own. Just food for thought. All in all, does exactly what I needed which was to NOT sit on my new gutters, and the rubber feet protect my shingles and my siding - wherever I need to place it. Highly satisfied, other than the cost could be lower for what it is.

We installed LeafGuard gutters a few years ago. They work very well, however, we were warned about propping ladders against the gutters and denting them. I've had a couple of people who have blown leaves off my roof and no one has a stand-off like this. The ones who had anything the arms were short and had to be placed against the side of the house making the move from the ladder to the roof very treacherous. I purchased this product a couple of months ago in preparation for some small repair work to our roof. This past week I finally took the parts out of the box to put it together so that it would be ready for the repairman. Putting the product together: The instructions are clear and concise. The bolts included are extremely well machined and fit perfectly. Follow the instructions and you won't have any problems. Took about 20 minutes to complete simply because I'm not as fast as I used to be! It does help to have two people since one person can hold parts while the other puts the bolts through the proper holes. Build Quality: This is one well made product. The steel tubing is thick and heavy. The rubber tips at the end give the impression that they will last as long as necessary. Actual Use: There are two foot plates that fit right on the ladder and two pins that hold the stand-off to the ladder steps. The pins have an easy to remove safety wire that will assure you that the stand-off won't fall off. This allowed the roofer to easily get from the ladder to the roof and gave us the confidence that not only would he be safe but so would our gutters. I can recommend this product without restrictions. My roofer was so impressed with the quality and fit/finish that he was sure we had rented it and was surprised that we had been able to buy it from Amazon. If you want to save your gutters from scratches and dents buy this.

I'm a handy guy, and I found the instructions to be a bit overly difficult to understand, considering how few actual parts there are. No, the product don't come assembled, you have to do that. Although, I did get it correctly assembled after some close reading, and re-reading of instructions. I have a large 'painters' ladder I wanted to use this with, it reaches the roof of the second story of my house, so it's a pretty good size. When I'm up on the second story doing whatever it is (cleaning leaves, I recently added more soffit vents to beef up attic ventilation which was inadequate) having the stabilizer really makes me feel far safer doing my tasks at hand. I've used ladders of all kinds throughout my life, and I feel pretty comfortable. But, it's a long fall from second story, and I wanted the added stability. Safety is darn important. Although I may complain about the instructions, i do like that the product is manufactured in USA. I also appreciate that it seems quite solid. The pictures are kind of deceiving if you ask me, in real life, it's much beefier than it looks in the pictures. It is worth mentioning that there is NO adjustment for the standoff from the house (or whatever you lay our ladder against). Some may view this as a negative, but for me this is a positive. I don't trust adjustable mechanisms with my safety. This is just solid metal, less to fail. Other products with adjustable standoff sometimes cite weak mechanisms and such in some reviews, so I avoided those products. My ladder has round 'rungs' - if you have large flat steps, this product will probably not fit! Read the product specs for maximum size of the steps. Lastly, if you have a very large eave (roof overhang) this may not be a big enough of a standoff to clean gutters easily. In my case, I have to rest the legs on the roof shingles, as otherwise I'm reaching wayyy back to try and reach in my guttters (really unsafe). So, keep that in mind. But this is about as big as they get anyway in terms of standoff distance. Overall, I'd very much reccomend this product.

I bought this to use with a "little giant" ladder, specifically the little giant extreme 22ft ladder system. The assembly went smoothly, just nuts and bolts and pretty straight-forward. This took 10-15 minutes. The spacing for the ladder rung brackets is fixed, it was correct for my ladder. Slipping the Ladder-Max Stand-Off on was easy, the horizontal brackets fit over the ladder rungs. The bottom bracket has 2 locations for retaining pins(you can see the spring clips at the bottom of the photo of the product) The pins pass through a hole on the front of the bracket, they go under the ladder rung, then through a hole on the back of the bracket and spring clip holds them in place. The vertical depth of the rung brackets was not enough for the little giant rungs, the pin would not install into the holes in the bracket. This would not stop the product from working, but did give a little concern if the ladder shifted. I contacted ladder-max via email from their website. They are SERIOUS about customer care. John Noble from Ladder-Max replied the same day(Wed) Their fix is a heavy duty nylon or cordura strap with a heavy clasp that wraps around the bracket frame and the ladder rung. I replied to John that I would like to receive the stap and he sent it to me. I received the strap via USPS after the weekend(must have sent it the same day I asked). It works perfectly, no other concerns with this produt. It really is simple, effective, and very sturdy.

Can you imagine I am not getting younger? As a matter of fact some days I feel old AF. So this year when was time to clean the gutters I ordered the Ladder Max. It took about 15 minutes to build it. Direction are pretty clear. My main tip is to leave evey bolt loose until all bolts,washer and nylock nuts are in place. Then go in and tightend all alternating as you go. As far as adding it to the ladder you just slip it over the runs you select. That depends if your using as a stand off or using to climb onto you roof. I used it my first time as stand off to clean my gutters. It made a kind of hated job kind of easy. Now I did add mine to a little Giant so It was a bit top heavy. I did not have a problem moving it along the gutters. I did have a little problem laying the ladder down. Usually I can just walk it out rung by rung the extra weight the top caused the bottom legs to duck walk away from me. So the ladder came down hard and fast. Just make sure you wedge against the house or have some one step on the feet. Did I mention I am old !. The other great feature is you deploy it on lower rungs that give you comfortable dismounting on to your roof which is nice whether you are young or old. Safety first. If you use extensions ladder or multi ladders your need this device. How much is your health and safety worth?
