The first number A represents the outer diameter (OD) in millimeters (mm) at the widest point of the inner (male) joint and the second number B represents the length of the joint. A 3 way distilling adapter ,also called 3 way connecting adapter,distilling head,is designed with three joints: one female joint at top which is designed to hold a thermometer adapter accommodating thermometer to monitor the vapor temperature during the distillation,and two male joints,one at the side arm to connect a liebig condenser or coiled condenser and one at the bottom to connect a distillation flask(round bottom flask) or a distillation column(vigreux column or hemple column). This three way connecting adapter is commonly used in the distillation apparatus for distillation,vacuum distillation,fractional distillation,it is quite similar to three thermometer adapter HMA016103,but the top outer joint is replaced by a thermometer inlet cap. This distillation adapter is with 24/40 standard female taper joint at top,and one 24/40 male joint at side arm and one 24/40 male joint at bottom. The liebig condenser is the most basic water-cooled condenser,also named “water conendenser”,which consists of an inner straight tube surrounded by an outer jacket tube,the cool water flows through the outer jacket to condensate the vapor in the inner tube.Water can asborb much more heat than the same volume of air,and its constant circulation through the water jacket keeps the condenser’s temperature constant,Therefore,a liebig condenser has a better cooling performance than an air condenser. A liebig condenser can be both used in a reflux and a distillation apparatus.In the reflux apparatus, the lower inner joint will be inserted into a round bottom flask which contains the mixture liquid,the upper outer joint may attach a dry tube to prevent atmospheric moisture from entering a reaction system. The Allihn condenser,also known as a “bulb condenser”,similar to a liebig condenser ,is designed with an inner tube consisting of a series of bulbs which increase the surface area availiable for vapor condensation surrounded by an outer jacket tube, the cool water flows through the outer jacket to condensate the vapor in the inner tube.Additionally,the Allihn condenser has a wider bore at the bottom and the condensed liquid can run down along the sides avoiding blocking the upward vapor. Allihn condensers are used for laboratory-scale refluxing and provide a greater surface area than similar Liebig condensers.A reflux apparatus usually consists of an Allihn condenser used as a reflux condenser,a round bottom flask(single neck or multi-neck),a drying tube to prevent the atmospheric moisture from entering into the reaction,a separatory funnel or pressure equalizing funnel for adding reagents. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this glassware, I wasn't expecting it to be so thick and heavy. Makes me feel more confident that something isn't going to explode on me at higher temperatures. All the joints fit together nicely and also fits well with pieces of glassware from other manufacturers so that is good. metal pieces aren't the best quality but that's not very important to me. It took a while to be shipped. I ordered early July and it did not ship and arrive until the end of August. So make sure to keep that in mind if you buy this set. ... show more

Quality of the glass seems great. Price to performance ratio can't be beat. Glass was well packed. I also bought some expensive PYREX graduated cylinders to compare quality, and this stuff, while not as good, comes close enough for me. Consider this on the lower end of high tier, or high end of mid tier. They sent me two of the same condensers though. Apparently the missing one isn't very useful though. Note, I ended up buying more glass and cork stands directly from the supplier and it took more than a month to arrive. I hope they offer more of their products on Amazon. This is high-quality Chinese glassware comparable to some American brands that I also own, Pyrex, and Chemglass. It is precision boro 3.3 glassware thick walled as advertised. It is a great set but not complete, you will still have to buy a bunch of stuff, like thermometers, thermocouples, various adapters, filtering apparatus and filter papers, heating mantle, hot plate stirrer, retort stand and various clamps, addition funnels, solvent cold traps, vacuum pump, optional stuff like solvent still, Friedreich's condenser, shortpath distillation head with receiving cow and collection flasks... The list could go on, but you can see that this is not complete chemistry set, just the basic glassware. The Bad stuff: 1 piece was missing from my set and i had to buy it off Amazon separately. The supplier does not respond to messages. And don't try ordering from their website as you will have to go through PayPal refund process months later when your order doesn't arrive, and no communication whatsoever. This is a pretty great set for the price. The glass is sound; I've performed half a dozen vacuum distillations with the kit and tried out almost every piece. No leaks and no signs of fatigue after several cycles at up to 140°C and down to -20°C at around 50 torr. I think most of the pieces should last quite a while as long as they are handled gently. Shipping took quite a while and several pieces were broken on arrival but within 24 hours of contacting the seller another shipment was on it's way with the replacement glass; this package was far speedier than the original order. I would recommend this product to anyone in need of a starter kit; the glass is not perfect but it works well and the seller will take care of any problems. ... show more

Had some reservations about purchasing from a Chinese company, but compared to other Chinese and Pakistani glassware producers I knew quality, hand-blown glass was a necessity. Packaging was quite secure, metal three-finger clamp was wrapped in foam wrap then bubble wrap to ensure it would not damage the glass.
