Bought this since I am always losing my house key and This is such great quality. You can set up passcodes for different people you want to have access and set up times that they can use the code to get in. Each person can have their own passcode. Works great. Physical installation of the lock went fine, then everything went downhill. Just a quick fyi for people that are concerned over privacy. You have to make an account with kwikset in order to use any features of the lock besides the physical key. In order to do that you must download an app to your phone, they then ask for your name, email, phone number, and the GPS coords of your home... The real problems with this lock arose after making my account and trying to get the lock set up in the phone app. The lock pairs via bluetooth for the initial setup to get it connected to your wifi. As soon as that was done a message popped up forcing a firmware update. That took about 10 mins. After the firmware update I lost most communication with the lock. It prompted me to add an access code to the lock to enable the keypad. I typed one in but it couldnt be added because "the lock was outside bluetooth range or unpowered". I noticed that the battery meter for the lock was now at %0, which was at %100 a few mins earlier. I hit the big lock/unlock button in the app and waited... 2 minutes later the lock actuated and locked the door. That was the only time it actually (kinda) worked. I tried changing various settings in the lock such as the sound and led settings, but nothing would happen. I decided reset my phone, and the lock itself and that got some communication from the lock. I could now change the led and sound settings but thats about it. I Still couldnt lock or unlock from the app and couldnt add an access code to use the keypad. I messed around with it for 45 mins and got nowhere. Last ditch effort to get it working, a factory reset and start all over. This resulted in not being able to get past the first step and connecting to it via bluetooth. I reset everything AGAIN and now can connect with bluetooth! But also right back to a %0 battery meter and not being able to change any settings in the lock... I give up. I now had a $250 wifi touchpad door lock that I could only open with a key... ... show more

These are great WiFi locks! I own Airbnbs and these locks keep me on top of my business. I currently have 9 halo locks. I used to have cameras which made guests uncomfortable. Now I rely on the Kwikset app to tell me exactly who is coming and going. Or if a guest is a little ‘extra’, I can open the door for them from the app instantly! I can program codes for just the duration of stay. I have a backup key in a lockbox at each location but I have never had to use it! The first one I installed was over 4 years ago. I see some reviews complain about setup and battery life. It’s important to follow the instructions when installing, but I haven’t ever failed. I did have to start over a few times however because I missed a step. The battery life is about 3 months I would say, maybe longer if you let it get very low. I replace batteries when the lock sounds sluggish, which is around 70%. If it gets lower than 70% it will start throwing errors I have found. People who mention that battery life is less than 2 months probably have it installed in a way that forces the deadbolt to work too hard by coming in contact with the door jam. OK, I just installed the thing. I had nice reviews for the last one I bought until it "Broke" in. So maybe too soon to review but... That said, it seems much beefier than the other, it uses a standard Kwikset key that I can have duplicated anywhere. And/Or use their re-key technique to key all the Kwikset locks in the house to the same key. I did have trouble at first linking it to my WiFi but exiting the app and trying again fixed that. If I had anything a bit negative to say about it, it is kind of loud. You definitely know it's locking and unlocking. It was quite easy to install... after I broke down and unfolded the instructions. I've done a lot of locks, but there were a couple things they knew you would need to know. I read some of the one star reviews and was a bit worried but most seemed to be knee jerk reactions to minor problems. OK I've lived with it a couple days now. Auto lock can be problematical. The shortest duration is 30 seconds. I've had someone half close the door and I got a slew of "The lock is jammed" notifications. Added someone else's smart phone. They can only lock and unlock, no other access. Seems secure. I Like that feature. Secure keypad: when the keypad wakes up it displays 2 numbers you have to hit before it will let you enter the code. The idea there is so keep strangers from looking at fingerprints and guessing a code. I turned it off. Or tried to. Had to do a work around to get it to sync by turning something else on or off. Seems to be reluctant to wake up when you touch it. Experience had taught me the trick. Touch it for a couple seconds in the lower right corner. It will wake up and your finger is in a 'safe' place. Might also respond anywhere around the edge. It started reporting 'jams'. It turns out the batteries were getting low and though it would open, it was trying twice. All in all, I am liking it much better than the previous one. Seems solid. Might have a couple quirks but once you figure them out it works fine. ... show more
