Simple, functional, easy to clean and doesn’t have a useless annoying clock. One button to turn on, shuts off automatically after an hour. Takes cone paper filters, which I prefer. Best of all it doesn’t try to brew a pot in record time and overflow the filter, creating a mini superfund flood in your kitchen. So you can make string coffee and fill the filter to the top with ground coffee without fear of an overflow. That’s a real problem for some coffee makes, particularly Bunn’s which brew very fast and are not designed to make strong coffee. Is life worth living if you have to drink weak coffee? This is a decent coffee maker for the price. I like that the thermal carafe holds as much as it does. The timer is easy enough to program, and the coffee is good. One thing I'm not impressed with is that the coffee is not very hot, even when it is fresh. I was used to making pour-over coffee and wanted something that would have the coffee ready for me when I get up in the morning. This coffee maker does satisfy that requirement, but it does not produce coffee that is as hot as pour-over. Also, filling the water tank is fussy—the opening for the tank is small and inconveniently placed. I use a pitcher to fill it. Filling the tank from the thermal carafe is a recipe for a puddle on your counter. ... show more

Purchased this to replace a 10 year old Krups, which actually still worked and had more features. Liked the simpler design of the new model, especially lack of a clock and auto-on which we no longer need. The new model seems flimsier though, and one of the parts has already broken. This is the piece that holds the brew "sprayer" (?) to the top. It does make good, hot coffee which I guess is the most important aspect. Not sure I would purchase again due to the flimsier design. Also wish it had an "aroma" feature for stronger coffee. ... show more

I love this coffee maker. It’s fast and quiet, and brews a great cup of coffee. I make only one cup of coffee at a time (a large cup). I find the cone-shaped filter produces a more flavorful cup of coffee than does the basket-style filter. This is a winner in my book. Had this model for 40-years before it wore out. I use a paper filter regardless of the fine mesh. It lessens the oils and any bitterness. I’m not well informed about coffee but certainly like a rich smooth cup or I’ll pass entirely and this does the trick. Coffee…simple and fast. Everyone who has ever had a cup comments on how good it is.     • Decent Coffee Maker

We got this through the Vine program and spent a good amount of time with it before posting our review here. First item arrived in a damaged internal box. External box was fine, but the inner boxes were crushed a bit. When we unpacked the coffee maker, it had a dent right in the front. So, we exchanged for an undamaged one. Second one arrived in perfect shape. We used this coffee maker for about 2 weeks. We were using a Bunn coffee maker (20 years old, built like a tank, and no frills) and the only reason we considered a new one was for the timer feature. This coffee maker looks nice, but feels like a significantly lesser quality than the Bunn. But, it works well. The good: - Timer function works great. - Strength adjustment (not sure if it's a gimmick, but it can be adjusted). - Reusable/washable filter basket. - Looks nice. - GREAT customer service by Krupps (explained below). The bad: - Lightweight, made with a lot of plastic. - Reusable filter works OK, but you get very fine grit at the bottom of each cup of coffee. - Easy to overflow (explained below). So, the second unit we got was flawless and we used it for about a week with the reusable filter basket. We noticed a bit of 'sludge' or very fine grit at the bottom of each cup of coffee. We decided to try without the reusable filter basket and use a paper filter instead. That's where we had another (and much bigger issue). Came downstairs about 1/2 hour after the coffee should have been made to hear the coffee maker gurgling and still brewing. That seemed odd, so when I went and checked on it, I noticed that there was very little coffee in the carafe. The filter basket had been lifted up so that the plunger to release the coffee was NOT depressed. The carafe should push the plunger in the bottom of the filter basket. In this case, the whole basket lifted up and therefore was not letting brewed coffee flow out the bottom into the carafe. Instead, the filter basket overflowed and spilled partially brewed coffee and grounds all over the counter and back down into the reservoir! So, it was constantly sending partially brewed coffee back up to the overflowing basket and back down into the reservoir. I examined the coffee maker and the basket has a raised tab on it. I assumed that the lid should contact that tab to hold the basket down. The lid is curved or warped, so there was a 1/4" - 1/" gap between the underside of the lid and the tab on the filter. I called Krups and they were VERY helpful. They sent a return label and I mailed the coffee maker back to them. They tested it and could not get the problem to happen again. They said the gap between the lid and the tab on the filter basket is supposed to be there. The returned the coffee maker and followed up with a call and explanation of what was tested. We agreed that it must have been a fluke. I still wonder why they put a raised tab on the filter basket if it's NOT supposed to be held down by the lid, but it is what it is. The only thing I can think is the time it overflowed, maybe the filter with the grounds was not all the way down into the notch causing the carafe to NOT depress the plunger. It has worked fine since. Top notch customer service, nice coffee maker. Could use some improvement, but overall works good. ... show more
