  • Fabulous Stainless False Bottoms
Color: Stainless Steel
I love that all pieces of this are stainless, unlike many that have brass hose barbs.

  • It did the job perfectly!

It fits my pot perfectly and is very heavy duty.

  • Just buy the thing
Color: Stainless Steel
Fit's the round Home Depot (Big orange) coolers perfectly and doesn't lift up while stirring your wort. I have run two batches (one Kolsch with wheat malt and an American Pale Ale) through this screen and got much faster runoff with NO sticking! I did back to back mashes so a quick cleanup and turnaround time was important. Cleanup was quicker than than my first SS mesh pipe manifold or the slotted copper tubing manifold I replaced. I didn't do the math for efficiency but I will say that I made my numbers spot on if not even higher expected OG than previous batches through my old slotted copper manifold. If you've been looking at one of these from the LHBS or online big stores (at twice the price), DON'T HESITATE! This thing is the same quality as the one you've been drooling over. GET IT! ... show more

  • Great deal - KegWorks is a great supplier
Color: Stainless Steel
First off - i pick this up for only a few dollars due to a mistake by KegWorks. They misposted their price on Amazon and could have canceled my order but they shipped it to me anyway. Unbelievable move on their part. I highly recommend them and a vendor for brewery supplies. Regarding the False Bottom, it works well. It will leave a small viod at the bottom that you will have to adjust for (maybe an addition 1/4 - 1/2 gallon of mash water). It has seemed to increase my mash efficency by about 8 -10% but it does take longer to recirculate prior to sparge. On my last brew, i actually used the fale bottom just as a filter and use the bazooka tube (my old filter) as a secondary filter. The combo worked well. ... show more

  • Elbow joint rusted.
Color: Stainless Steel
The false bottom was kind of warped when I got it, but I just bent it a little so that the edges all almost touched the bottom of the mash tun. The thing that worries me the most about this product is that I put the false bottom in the mash tun along with some water to check the system for leaks (127 deg F water for about 20 min) and noticed that the 3/8" hose barb to 1/2" NST elbow joint was tarnishing. I took the part off the false bottom and scrubbed it with a nylon brush and some stainless steel cleaner to a great shine, but after a little more time in and out of hot water I noticed some rusty spots forming again. It isn't much, but it unsettles me to put a rusty part into my mash and it's why I went with stainless steel in the first place. The dome is fine, though, so I'm just going to order a brass elbow joint ($7) to replace the "stainless" one that it came with (replacing the joint w/ stainless would cost as much as replacing the whole false bottom). I can't say that I'm impressed with this product- in fact, I'm disappointed with it, so that's why I'm giving it 2 stars. Less fastidious brewers may not mind the small amount of corrosion and tarnish, but I can't stop imagining that rust getting into the product. ... show more

  • Clogs easy
Color: Stainless Steel
I don't know how I feel about this item. Using rice hulls in an all grain mash, I have severe flow issues. I have to constantly scrape it with my stainless stirrer. This is my first false bottom, so maybe this is common - but I think I may just stick to the brew bags from now on

  • Greatly improved efficiency
Color: Stainless Steel
Bought this to replace my improvised stainless steel water line sleeve. Was only getting efficiency in the 60% range, and after switching to this false bottom my next batch had 79.8% efficiency! You do have to do a vourlof a bit longer before your wort runs clear, but once the grain bed sets, it's fine. Wish I bought this a long time (or many batches) ago. Highly recommended. Also, you do NOT need a pickup tube extending below the false bottom. After some research online and talking with my LHBS, there is no need for the pickup tube in your mash tun. Your brew kettle is a different story. You just need some tubing to connect to your ball valve on the tun. ... show more

  • A bit warped, but does appear to be 304 SS
Color: Stainless Steel
[...] The review stating this false bottom is chrome is likely incorrect. The false bottom is manufactured by Krome Dispense, but does not appear to actually be chrome. Out of the package, the false bottom was a bit warped so that it wouldn't create a good seal around the bottom of my mash tun (10 gallon Rubbermaid beverage cooler). I had to bend a few of the sides down, to make them touch the bottom. Not a big deal, just took some patience. I haven't brewed with this yet. May want to check this: [...] ... show more
