    • excelent studio monitor
Full disclosure, the only music genre I work with is Rock, (hard, melodic, metal etc.) so I can only speak to that with respect to this product. With 35+ years studio experience both as an artist and engineer, I can say these are perfect for all phases of recording, mixing and mastering. The bass has just enough punch to give you a reference when mixing a kick drum and bass to provide adequate separation between the two resulting in a solid bottom end. The mid spectrum is well represented helping to keep that "boxed'" sound at a minimum. The highs are a little on the bright side for my taste but once I got used to what the finished product sounded like on different audio devices I was able to compensate when rolling off 10k during the mastering process. I have no problem with the sleep feature, they wake up pretty quick once they sense audio. The LED logo looks cool and lets me know they are powered on. Not sure why other reviews take a shot at KRK for this feature. I chose this speaker for a few reasons. 1. KRK has been in this space for a while giving studios an option other than the de facto yamaha 2. I didn't want all the other options like the analyzer. (unnecessary in my opinion) 3. Price. 20 years ago you pay $700 for a decent pair of monitors 4. Size. They are small and light for a powered monitor. In closing, these speakers do exactly what they were designed to do. Give you an audio reference of your recording, mixing or matering project. They are not going to throw big bass or blast the room. You should have another reference speaker system for that. It takes time and experience to know what a good mix sounds like in a controlled environment like a studio and how that translates once its out in the public being played on thousands of different systems. The media could not be loaded. English: The KRK 5" Classic Studio Monitors set the standard in their price range, making it challenging for other monitors to compete. Offering excellent quality at an affordable price, I always recommend monitors with at least a 5-inch size, as anything smaller tends to produce low sound and can lead to issues, especially in low frequencies. These monitors deliver a fantastic quality that I wholeheartedly endorse. Having a monitor with high volume capability is crucial to me since dynamic range plays a significant role in my mixing process. I aim to mix at -18dB volume, and with these monitors, I can hear my mixes loud and clear. I recommend avoiding adjustments to the controls behind the monitor, even if you know what you're doing. Nothing beats proper acoustic treatment, and using earphones for precision is advisable. Personally, I leave everything at default settings with the volume set at 0 dB. Most home studio monitors operate the same way as cheaper computer speakers. For example: One of the monitors is hollow feeling, because it houses speakers only, and the other monitor cabinet contains not only speakers, but the stereo amplifier, power connection, volume controls, and cable pigtail to the other speaker. These features are familiar to most. Thus, one speaker is heavier and the other is lightweight. These KRK CLASSIC 5 monitors are individually powered. They include a pretty nice set of adjustment knobs on the back. What about the volume control? There is none. You need to have an Audio input device, like the ones made by Focusrite, Native Instruments, or one of the many other manufacturers. Those units have separate volume controls for both monitors and headphones. If you are researching these monitors, you probably know this. Thus, knowing that these units are separate, individual, self powered monitors, can explain the quality and price differences. These are the beginning of the next level up, in monitors.     • Brilliant little studio monitors
Spent a lot of time reading other reviews etc. Already have 3rd generation 8 inch KRK monitors, with a 10 inch sub that I use in my living room, which are incredible, and wanted some desk monitors for my study/office. Decided that the KRK's are amazing but was not sure I would be able to tell the difference between the 3rd generation and 4 generation series (which are nearly double the price), so got the classic version (3rd generation). So glad I got the KRK's. They are absolutely amazing, I cant believe such small speakers reproduce such incredible sound, including amazing base response. Brilliant value. ... show more
