I’m in love with this futon! The quality is amazing~ evenly stained wood, rich dark finish, thick firm-but-cushy mattress, gorgeous plush suede fabric. It came in two packages on the same day. I ordered it on a Saturday and it arrived the following Saturday. The mattress was tightly rolled up and I would advise having a large space when you cut it open because BAM it sort of explodes into its full size very quickly! The frame and all of the pieces were packaged extraordinarily well; each piece is color and number coded to match the instructions. There is a very clear, very concise instruction book included, and three packages of hardware. The hardware is sandwiched in pieces of cardboard with slots for each piece, and clearly marked which pieces of hardware you will need for each step. (I’ll advise you to cut the hardware packages open laying flat, if you cut them open any other way the pieces may tumble out of their slots and then you’ll have to match them up by the pictures in the booklet). The two main packages were pretty heavy and I had to get them up a flight of stairs to my apartment. I’m a very small 51 year old woman, 120 lbs and I’m not a particularly athletic girl, and I was able to do it without too much trouble by opening the frame package at the bottom of the stairs and carrying the pieces up one at a time instead of trying to muscle the entire box up the stairs. I was also able to assemble this completely by myself within 1.5 hours, with hardly any difficulty. When they say don’t tighten the bolts until the end of each step, they really mean it. It will save you some frustration if you follow that advice. The hardest part was getting the mattress onto the frame because it is very thick and bulky. Once I had it on, it settled into the frame nicely because the mattress is hinged. Be sure to read the tag that tells you which side of the mattress needs to sit on the frame. It is extremely comfortable to sit in. It feels very sturdy and came in perfect condition with no splits, cracks, scratches or flaws. There are no weird puckers or bad stitching in the fabric and even the zipper is very well placed and tidy looking. I highly doubt I will ever use it as a bed so I can’t vouch for that comfort or the complexities of moving it from couch to bed and vice versa. I love the muted colors and the way it fits into my decor. I highly recommend this futon for all these reasons. This is not a cheap sloppy dorm couch; it is quality and durable and beautiful in looks. Buy this, you will be very pleased and comfy.

I've only had this futon set for a few months, but I will share my overall experience thus far. Shipping was fairly quick-- received it sooner than expected. Upon delivery it came in two different boxes; one tall box for the mattress (rolled, very heavy) and a taller, bigger box for the assembly pieces. I was very surprised to have seen a mattress come with it, as I thought I was only paying for the frame-- which is a plus! I live alone and had no assistance putting the set together, even though the manual strongly advised two people to assemble. It took me (alone) about 4 hours to complete the majority of it, however, I had one piece that was very stubborn in terms of making it fit; it appeared to be the wrong base piece so that took an extra day to complete but nevertheless I made it work. I would advise to let the mattress air out a bit, as it came with a sour smell but wasn't hard to deodorize. Putting the mattress on the frame is very difficult, as it is quite heavy and with it being a foldable full size mattress made it more difficult to make it stay seated in place at first. It is easier to flip the futon from couch to bed than vice versa; as all you have to do is pull the bottom base up and out to make it flat. It likely takes two people to switch it from bed to couch, since the mattress is so heavy and flimsy; but if you do this often, this will contribute to the futon prematurely start falling apart, which is unfortunate. I did have to reach out to the vendor customer service about the piece that didn't seem to fit and they were very responsive, respectful, helpful and understanding. Very knowledgeable about the product and sent videos with time stamps on assembling certain pieces. They sent me the piece that I ended up no longer needing via FedEx, so I returned to sender (my sincerest apologies) as I had bent a piece in order to make it fit successfully. I use a mattress topper from my previous bed to make it extra cozy, but the mattress is comfortable with or without it and I sleep pretty well for it being a futon. I'm very surprised at how I don't wake up in pain, as futons have been known for being uncomfortable. The suede is quite nice as well. After having the product a few months in, I did start to see some of the frame falling out of place. The left side that is holding the bottom base by three tiny wooden pieces are detaching from each other. I'm not sure if I can use wood glue in order to keep these pieces together, however, I will have to eventually reach out to customer service once again to find the best solution. Looks beautiful in my NYC shoebox apartment. I only wish that it were more sturdy. I will be moving soon and hope I wont have damage issues with transporting the set. Overall decent product.

I utilized the step-by-step video on Amazon's listing of this futon to guide me through an easy installation. Fully-assembled, it's very sturdy and comfortable. Sturdy spring mattress. Three settings (upright, lounge, and bed). Be advised, the boxes are heavy. That's a good indication of a quality item - lots of mass to keep it sturdy and strong - but you will probably want a helping hand when taking the boxes inside (2 boxes - 1 for the frame, 1 for the mattress). I took everything inside and assembled it myself, but I'm a big burly weightlifter. The average guy is going to struggle with the weight of the packages, and handling the heavy mattress once it's unwrapped and expanded inside your house. The assembly hardware is designed so that you won't strip any screws into the wood. Nope. The high-stress points in the frame are secured with metal-into-metal fasteners. As someone who's been frustrated with "assembly required" items with screw holes that strip too easily, I was very happy with this. I highly recommend this futon. High-quality, heavy, sturdy, elegant, and comfortable.

I've been holding off writing a review for a few months now, because I wanted to be able to comment on the more long term quality and functionality of this futon. I've had it almost 6 months now. I am very happy with this futon. For me it's a good middle of the road futon as far as balancing price and quality. Obviously there are fancier, heavy duty futons... but they also cost way more. Then there are the super cheap futons... but they feel like it and usually fall apart fairly quickly. This one hits right in the middle, a more reasonable price for a good quality item. We mostly use it as a couch in my office, but we've also had guests sleep on it. It works well for both. My guest said it was comfortable to sleep on for the multiple nights she used it. And as a couch it's comfortable and doesn't take up too much room. It does feel sturdy and I think it will last a good while. As far as assembly I found it not too challenging. I did most of it myself, only needing help for the final step of hooking the large pieces together. Just pay attention to the instructions and you shouldn't have too hard a time. Hope this helpful, I spent a couple months trying to find and decide on this futon. I'm glad I did and am happy with the result!

I like the look of the futon. It’s pretty comfortable, if you like a pretty firm mattress. It took a little time to put together, but, that was just because I was doing it by myself. The assembly instructions were clear. My disappointment is in the fact that the end piece on the left end of the couch is coming apart. It was all one piece that had been preassembled by the manufacturer. It has only been opened and slept on twice. It is used as a couch on an almost daily basis. You just hate to spend almost $400 to have it falling apart in less than 4 months. Not cool.

I purchased this futon as we were going to have a guest over for several months and need something comfortable. The two packages arrived quickly and ahead of schedule and nicely packed. Setting it up was not overly difficult and the videos certainly help. First night my guest slept in it, she said that it was very comfortable. She has been sleeping on it for 2 weeks now and continues to love this futon. One issue we had was that the arm piece (which came preassembled) was separating after the first use. We called Amazon to see if we could get a replacement part or resolve this issue. They said the only way to fix the issue was to send it back and get a refund. They offered to send someone to pick it up for us, if we needed. I like the futon and did not want to return it, just get it fixed. I contacted Kodiak Furniture around 10pm and at early next morning, I had a reply back requesting mailing information. In less than an hour later, I received a tracking number with the replacement part! That is awesome! I have already recommended this futon to one of my relatives and I will say, I look forward to sleeping on it when my guest leaves. It is very comfortable and looks amazing.

Love this futon so far, the mattress is firm but comfortable (marmot thunder fabric is really soft), the color is great and the design simple, elegant, and not obtrusive or bulky. It really feels solid and sturdy, so I'm not worried about it falling apart. It was fairly simple to construct, with clear directions. Shipping-wise it arrived earlier than expected so that was a nice surprise :). The box with the wood in it is CRAZY heavy so make sure you have help carrying/moving if you're not mad stronk. One thing is it smells a bit like fabric dye, but its subtle enough that it doesn't bother me or my wife (she's got a sensitive nose), and can be easily concealed when you need to sleep in it by covering it with a freshly washed sheet. It can also be a bit tough to go from bed to couch mode, but that's just because it doesn't have a complex latching mechanism(made construction easy) and is made of heavy wood(so it's sturdy AF). 2 year update: downgraded to 4 stars, but still really pleased with this for the price point. The mattress is holding up really well. Its still very comfy and isnt lumpy, and is especially comfy to sleep on if you put a 2 inch egg carton foam pad on it and a fitted sheet. However the main support beam on the frame, which the front of the seat rests on has cracked under strain from minimal use by relatively average and lighter weight people. I reinforced the support beam with metal brackets and haven't had any problems since. Update: many years later this thing is going strong. We use it for guests and now we use it to sleep next to our newborn in their bassinet

I have had this couch for about 4 years now and used it a ton. The mattress is very firm but hasn't worn over time. The base is solid. Two adults have had a lot of fun on this and not broken it. My two complaints: it's heavy and difficult to go from bed to couch mode. The mattress is okay for a night or two but needs a mattress topper for regular sleeping.
