I got this to heat 5 gallons of liquid for rust removal and it worked well for that purpose. I've never used a device like this before, and the simplicity of the whole set up was pretty surprising to me. I would NOT use this heater without carefully watching it, for safety reasons. If you have ADHD like me, set a timer. I can see leaving this heater running for extended periods accidentally can potentially create dangerous situations, so please use with caution. ... show more

    • Works fine, but can be dangerous if left unattended.
As a portable pool heater, it works fine. The wand gets hot rapidly and pushes heat into the pool. So far so good. However, I do feel some concern about the wiring on this device. Although it has a on/off switch, it does not have a temperature sensor (from what I can tell). This means that, if the heating wand slipped out of the pool, it would rapidly heat until it catches fire. Not good. Also, there's no GFCI circuit on this, so if there is an electrical issue, this device is the equivalent of a toaster in the bathtub. Yikes. ... show more

    • Amazing heat rate
This heater turned a 4.5 gallon bucket of cold well water (58 degrees) into a very warm 130 degrees in 20 minutes. I found that agitating the water significantly increased the rate the water was heating. This heater is ideal for campouts where the water is almost always ambient or if in a campground with utilities - 65-70 degrees out of the faucet in your site. Many heat water to mix with the campground water to clean dishes, this is my new method. The clear issue with the heater is that there is no on/off switch but the immersion heater does have protection on the tube to help preclude damage during use. I would not call this a "pool" heater. I gave this item a very good rating with the exception of "easy to install" as you truly can not install this heater and if you did the electric bill would be an issue at 1500 continuos watts on 120 volts line. ... show more

I've seen several of these on Amazon and wanted to see how they work. I can't think of any place I would be where I would need hot water, have access to a power source, but wouldn't have access to a warm water source. I thought briefly that I might use it to heat up water to wash my car or my bikes but I don't think the time it would take to heat the water in the pair or bucket would justify not using hot water out of the tap. Anyway, this unit comes with the water warmer, a digital thermometer to detect the temperature of the water as it's heating, and what looks like a foil cleaning device. The instructions don't say anything about what it should be used for so I'm confused. It also comes with two sets of instructions/WARNINGS. The warnings clearly say to not use this device in a manner where the entire rod isn't submersed in the water. There's even a sticker on the rod itself that marks that location for you. I tested the rod an the device does heat the water but again it isn't super fast. There's a chart in the instructions that indicate how long it would take to certain temperatures. That's kind of nice. Again even though it works, for me I haven't figured out a good use case for it. If I do, I'll be sure to return and provide an update. ... show more

    • Heats up fast
This has been a lifesaver since my tank water heater broke. We can't fix it yet but we need hot water to wash dishes and bathe. It takes very little time for it to heat up the water to the 100 degrees or so that I need. Maybe 10-15 minutes for a 6 quart bucket. It also came with a thermometer that you can dip into the water and get real-time feedback on how warm the water is. Though the thermometer seems to have no off switch so it's always on after you activate it but it seems to have a long battery life. So far it has been working great and will hopefully last me long after I get my water heater fixed in case I need it again. ... show more
