  • Solid if not flashy set of daily use knives for food prep
I was pretty desperate for some new basic kitchen knives, and ordered these without particularly high expectations. I'm happy to say that they are working out great and overall are much better quality than I expected. For my last knife set, I went with form over function and ended up with some pretty crummy knives. Even though they were only a couple years old, the handles were kind of falling apart and the blades were so dull they couldn't even slice through a tomato without smushing it, and sharpening didn't even help. I am by no means a pro chef and don't have a lot of money to sink into basic kitchen supplies like this, so I really just wanted a solid set of knives that would help me prepare a simple dinner or slice up some fruits and veggies. Since I now have two teenagers that are starting to cook more on their own, I wanted knives that were effective but could take a decent amount of wear and tear. Overall the blades on these are just sharper and cut better than my last set and are way more than I expected at this price point. The 5 inch utility knife is my go-to, and I have to say that I literally have gotten value from this set just on the upgrade for this knife alone. I use the utility knife for just about everything, and it is cutting through everything easily and effectively. The knives are sharp and the blades looks great. It's funny that these are listed as grey because I ordered them in spite of that not because of that, since we have black accessories in our kitchen. Well I would definitely describe this set as black, not grey, so I was particularly pleased with the look and color of these. I will say the handles are not the strongest part of these knives aesthetically, as they are made of a so-so looking plastic material. They are still strong and sturdy enough and easy to grip. I don't mind the look of them overall but know that the handles on these are likely not going to win any design awards. The "block" they come with is made of plastic as well, so it's not the most high end looking item in the world. It's really just a bonus for my use though, since I have a magnetic knife strip in my kitchen where I keep my most-used knives. The circular holder that these come with actually turned out to be very handy for us, as I keep it in the corner of the kitchen storing the knives I only use occasionally. I do love that it's a "universal" block, so I can keep other knives as well as the kitchen shears this set comes with tucked away in it, in addition to the knives from this set that I don't use on a regular basis. Speaking of the shears, they work well for basic cutting and snipping of vegetables, and I've also already used them to cut pizza effectively also. Is this a fancy, incredibly high quality set of knives that will blow away any other you've ever used to cut food? No. Is is a solid and complete set of daily use knives that will work surprisingly well for food prep at an excellent value? Absolutely. I'm beyond glad I ordered these and I think they'll be durable enough for my family's basic food cutting needs for a long time to come. ... show more

  • Surprisingly good set for the price!
I was a bit nervous on this set as there was no main picture and not much of a description but I figured, at $20 it might be worth it. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised! It is a complete knife set including the knife "block". By no means is this a high-end set - but it's $20 and definitely a great value at that! The knives are sharp and the block is actually really cool. It reminds me of the middle of corrugated cardboard. There aren't set slots for the knives, you can just stick them in wherever. The set includes Kitchen shears, a Paring Knife, Utility Knife, Santoku Knife, Chef’s Knife, Bread Knife, slicing knife and then the cool knife "block". All the knives are stainless steel and very sharp and the shears are decent as well. And they actually tell you what the knife is on the blade! Kind of a nice touch for a non-chef like me. The knives don't have a full-length tang like you would expect on a high-end knife and they aren't super heavy-weight. Will they last a long time? Unlikely, but again, for $20 what do you expect? I fully anticipate that I'll get several months of decent use with them and maybe even a year or two if I'm extra careful. There does seem to be a bit of misbranding happening as the box shows one brand and the knives another. The box brand logo looks strikingly similar to a much more expensive brand of knives so perhaps that's what happened - they had to change their brand to not infringe. 🤷♀️ They're perfect for the starter home or the cabin or RV. Again, I'm actually impressed with the value for this set. Would I pay $50? Probably not but at $20, I'm happy! ... show more

  • Vastly exceeded my expectations
I am not easily impressed when it comes to kitchen knives. I am a serious home cook and I usually equip myself with outrageously expensive forged steel German knives that are vicious and stabby. When these came up for offer, I almost passed them by because I figured they would be cheap junk. I decided to check them out just for the sake of curiosity. I am honestly gobsmacked by the quality of these knives! These knives are high quality and viciously sharp. They include a chef's knife, slicing knife, santoku knife, serrated bread knife, utility knife, paring knife, and kitchen shears. They have a matte black finish and are extremely attractive. I assumed they would scratch fairly easily, so I actually tried to scratch one with another knife and although it showed the marks, it didn't show through silver. It held it's black finish. They have plastic handles, but are of a good weight and feel comfortable in the hand. I tested the knives on a thin piece of printer paper, and they cut through it like butter. They are really sharp. I do not like the knife block. It is lightweight and feels like cheap plastic. It's a foreign design to me and I feel like it may dull my knives, but it's probably just because I'm not used to it, and I may come to like it over time. These knives are almost everything you could want aside from a boning knife, and they will serve me well and make excellent tools at my summer cottage. They are a ridiculously good value at the current asking price. ... show more
