Taken as a set, these look very nice and are quite "giftable." The block holder is sleek and you get scissors and a built-in sharpener as useful bonuses, too. The variety is excellent and the black blades are attractive and sharp (who knows for how long -- especially if they are washed in a dishwasher as touted?) I have used this brand's steak knives in the past so I had no reservations trying this whole kit. The block itself is pretty nice and solid. About what you would expect from this price point in terms of quality. Nothing fancy but also not too cheap looking. The knives themselves are really nice and come very sharp from the factory. No flex in the blades with a good assortment of all the different styles of knife you may require in the kitchen. The built in sharpener is a really nice touch and clears up some counter space of a hand held one I used in the past. I also really appreciate the grooves in the santoku blade. Some I have used don't include them and it leads to food sticking to the blade due to the larger width. Not a problem at all with this set. Overall I really enjoy these. Highly recommended for the average home chef that doesn't require hugely expensive blades. ... show more
