These knives are surprisingly sharp, in a good way. But also a bit sharp on the top edges, which is not good if you hold the blade at all (as I do). I used the honing steel to dull them a bit, which definitely helped. I'm not super confident these will hold up long term, but they are working great for me at the moment. The knife block is also a mixed blessing; Looks nice, holds the knives, but it's very light and will tip forward if you have the steak knives in place and too many of other knives out. My block also has some misaligned slots, meaning I have to aim pretty carefully to insert the bigger knives.

I still have my full knife wallet from culinary school. However, I’m very fussy about letting others use them. I wanted a set for daily use that would hold up well, but I didn’t want to have a hemorrhage if they were ruined. Are these going to make my other knives quake with fear? No. Are these knives going to handle daily use from the rest of my family and not give out? I believe so. I don’t feel any weakness in the spine or tang that would concern me. And while I prefer a tri-stone for sharpening, having a sharpener included makes it less likely I’ll find my Spyder in pieces on the floor.
