We use these knifes every day. They've stayed sharp after filetting fish on rough cut wood, dropping on concrete, cutting roots out of the ground, and sitting in water overnight. I've even used one of em as a flat tip screw driver in a pinch! They look beautiful and have held up VERY WELL!

These knives are attractive. I personally like a good wooden handle...probably because in the 50+ years I've been cooking, that's what I have used. However, with the cost of a single butcher knife these days... a set with all the basics and steak knives in a very nice looking block are a good value. They keep a nice sharp blade and after running a couple of them through my knife sharpener, they are hairsplitting sharp. I did not split a hair.... but they just might. I only wash my knives by hand so not sure about putting them in a dishwasher. I would recommend only using them with dry hands as the metal handles are slick to the feel. They did go a bit overboard with branding each one and on the block, but it's not a deal breaker. They would be a very nice gift for a house warming. ... show more

These are fairly sharp knives that have a different look and feel compared to knives with wooden handles. The look of the knives is unique with the anti-rust, non-stick coating applied to the blades. I have sliced cheese and homemade bread and the non-stick claim seems to work well. We'll see how well the anti-rust part works, but I have left them lying wet in the sink for periods at a time with no rust observed. I would not recommend dishwashing, not so much for rust, but for the "wood" handle finish. The all-metal design is also different for me. The weight and balance of the knives is okay. There is a faux wood finish on the handles that also seems to be adhering with no issues, but more time will tell. If you've never owned an all-metal set, prepare to grow accustomed to the "clink" sound when you lay one on the counter. The good thing about those handles is that a wood conditioner is not required to keep your handles looking nice. The steak knives are serrated, which is okay, but I like straight blades better. I mentioned to be aware of your counter space situation, and here's why: the block stands at around a 75-degree angle, so the knives stand almost straight up in the block. If you have cabinets above your countertop, you cannot remove the longer knives from the block without pulling them out further on the counter. Note in the photos of the blocks with the new set and my old set. Luckily, I had a small space on the countertop to place the block. The advertising is a bit much with this set. Each knife and the block are marked with a logo. I think that a logo on the side of the block and no emblem on the knives would be more appropriate to give the set a classier look. If I could remove a half star I would, but won't take away a full star. ... show more

This is a beautiful and good quality set of knives. Very unique and functional. I love the assortment-it has every type of knife that we need. The all metal is different for me, but nice. However, I feel like it looks even better in the photos than real life. Their photos don't include the large HOBO logo on the beautiful knife block. And in their photos, it appears that each blade has a nice label for what it is- but instead, on that spot on the blade is another HOBO logo. There is no need for the blades being labeled (the paring and utility knives are the only two that fit in each other's hole), but the pictured label is much more attractive than the actual logo that you receive. These are nice quality but need to be hand washed. The current price of about $70 is a tad steep in my frugal opinion too, but they are nice knives. I feel they should be more accurately portrayed in the pictures. If they were as-pictured and on sale, I would highly recommend them. ... show more

I wasn't sure what to expect about the design of these knives and knife block. I really wanted to love them. I like it but I am not confident it is worth $69.99. The blades are heavy but not forged and connected to the handle. The handles are metal and have a wood look but feel hollow, making them feel less quality than I expected for the price. The block itself is very nice and I love that it has each of the knife slots labeled so you know just where each knife goes. I like that there is a set of steak knives. The steak knives are serrated, not usually my first preference but we will see how they cut a hefty piece of meat. Planning steaks tomorrow! I might consider giving them as a wedding, bridal shower, birthday, etc but I would think twice before spending this amount on this particular set. ... show more
