  • Relatively easy install & good deal for the money (UPDATE 8/24/23)
Size: 12,000 BTU - 208/230V
Update 8/24/23...a good thing has only gotten bettter! Now that the unit has experienced a full winter, spring, and some very hot summer months (including two 100 degree days), I wanted to update my review with how this unit performs in warmer weather. Let me just put it this way...it's 100 degrees out today, and the cabin feels like a meat locker, lol! It has absolutely no problem keeping up with the high temps we are having. This is a great unit & if I could give it more than 5 stars I surely would. I've been recommending these types of systems to friends...in many cases, the cost is not immensely more than a large window unit AC, but this cools better, also does a great job heating, and the electric consumption is very low. (Original review follows) Let me start by saying I am not an HVAC tech. But I bought this with the intent to install it myself & then let a licensed HVAC company do the final steps (vacuum lines, check for leaks, proper pressure, etc.). Never have I installed one & I am happy to report it is in & working! Took me about an afternoon to install excluding the time to install the electrical circuit. Would have taken less with a helper, but it's doable for just one person. So far it is heating very well...yesterday we had temps in the upper 20's with high winds, and it kept my wife's 300 square foot cabin (that has 7 windows) comfortable at 68 degrees. Spent some time in the cabin priming the walls today & although there was no wind today, it was still in the upper 20's, and the unit heated the cabin pretty quickly (around an hour from 46 degrees - the "freeze protection" temp - to 70 degrees). Very quiet system! Now I just have to wait for summer to return to see how the AC side of things work. All in all, a nice system, good value for the money. ... show more

  • You can raise penquins with this unit
Size: 12,000 BTU - 115V
This is the 2nd one I've owned in past 20 years. The first one lasted 19 years and ran almost constantly. This is the best buy at Amazon. Hands down, the quality, performance and ability to cool and heat a 450 sq, ft, room is un-matched. At this price, you get everything you need to install and have operational in a few hours. In this Texas heat, set at 75 degrees keeps the room cool and at 72 it will have you looking for blankets and coats. ... show more

  • Klimaire Mini-split is the Best!
We've only had it installed & working a few days, but everything has gone perfectly. Buyers of 30,000 BTU units do need to understand that it is necessary to have a vacuum placed on the lines at installation. The unit does come precharged, but the line to the inside unit has to be vacuumed & sealed. The unit came in perfect condition. Interaction with the Klimaire warehouse supervisor & customer service manager, Rudolfo Silva was outstanding! He took care of every question I had making installation a very straightforward process. My A/C man tells me he has fewer callbacks on Klimaire products than any other brand. ... show more

  • Good Mini-Split, Kit Not As Great
Size: 12,000 BTU - 115V
I want to be clear that the muni-split itself is really nice. A friend in HVAC helped me with the installation and was quite impressed with a number of the features. However, the installation kit is NOT great. I got the Klimaire 12,000 BTU 20.8 SEER2 Ductless Mini-Split Inverter Air Conditioner Heat Pump System with All-Inclusive 16' Installation Kit, Wall Bracket, Electrical Disconnect Box & Liquid-Tight Whip (115V). So, lets break down the kit. The wall support rack has no instructions and is extremely complicated to figure out. We decided not to use it, it just wasn't worth the effort and more than likely the extra hour of work to install. The A/C cut off box is set up for 230v which threw me for a loop. It turns out you can use it with 110v, but interestingly enough, the electrician I had come out to provide a quote to run a line said I couldn't. No biggie, we used it, but it requires a 19-25 amp BUS fuse (x2) and did NOT come with them. Ouch, thankfully another friend in heating and air down the road had them on hand. The kit does not come with the line set cover, you need to purchase that separately. There were a couple of other things in the instructions we had to provide, and some connectors for the electric hookups. You need a 1/2-inch compression coupler or two for the box and unit. I also bought 3/4" EMP conduit, wet location junctions, and 3/4" compression couplers. I also needed a 20amp breaker and 12/2 wire (if you want to go a bit overkill, get 10/2). The wiring diagrams don't match the whip provided or the colors of the wires for the unit, but we found alternates in the list. The unit itself is quiet! Runs well, and does the job in a rather large garage with 10-foot ceilings. It took roughly 6-8 hours to install with the help of my knowledgable friend who has his own business in heat/air for the last 40 years or so. That does not include the wiring, which is totally not worth what the electrician wanted to charge. I ended up doing that myself and saved $4k in he process. The time also doesn't take into account the demolition of the window and building a wall in it's place so I could mount this thing in the best location for the space. So, you can expect to spend a full day. It's worth it, but save yourself some money and just by the mini-split - get the other items you need separately. It wasn't worth the price of the kit, and that is why I removed a star. ... show more
