    • Good Solid Hoist For Mutiple Uses

Overall this a pretty solid portable hoist. Build quality is good and for certain types of uses would be perfectly fine. If the capacity, chain length, and access to the ratchet is suitable then this hoist will take care of your needs. The body of this hoist is not quite as robust as some other 1/4 ton hoists that are out there, but it will probably work alright for your purposes. I feel more confident in lifting more like 250 or 300 lbs as opposed to the 500-550 lbs that it is rated for, but if you get this hoist do whatever you're comfortable with within the limits. The short ratchet works ok if you have easy access to it, but in my use where I had it mounted kind of overhead it was a little awkward to reach up and operate (if you have it positioned at waist to shoulder height then it's probably not an issue). The fairly short five foot chain can also be a limitation in some circumstances, but using another chain if necessary shouldn't be too troublesome. I'll get some good use out of this hoist, but a slightly heavier one with 10 foot chain, and chain pull operation would be my preference. All-in-all this hoist is at least worth your consideration if you're in the market. ... show more

    • It worked to lift my Bobcat lawnmower!

We've been needing to sharpen the blades on our large zero-turn riding lawn mower. To pay someone else to do it I'd need to take it by trailer and pay $200-300 which we really haven't wanted to do. Enter the KITUYOTO Mini Chain Hoist. It comes in a nice storage case and we were eager to try it out. After considering our options we decided to throw a chain over a large, healthy oak tree branch and we hooked this hoist to that chain. We drove the lawnmower to the chain and began hoisting up the front end. This hoist was very easy to use and didn't take much strength. It easily picked up the front end of the lawnmower exposing the blades underneath for us to remove and sharpen. This hoist feels durable and well-made. There are a few plastic components, but they are on non-loadbearing parts (a lever and the pull handle) while the rest is very solid. We felt confident the hoist could handle the weight of our large mower, but we still used a log as a brace while we were in the danger zone as we would have for any other method of lifting the mower. I ordered this hoist for light duty work around the shop and yard. It arrives in a convenient case that I doubt will get much use for me but is still a nice addition. Let's just make this clear, this is definitely a light duty hoist so don't order it for heavy lifting. It says its rated to 550 lbs., but I don't know if I would even trust it to that extent other than if I was lifting something I didn't mind potentially dropping and it was in a safe spot. A few points to address. First, the part of the chain that mounts to a base uses a plastic handle which is very lightweight and frankly I don't think very reliable looking. I plan on swapping it out for a metal ring or other type of hook because I don't like relying on plastic to secure things that will be hanging from above. The next thing is the switch for lowering and raising which feels a little looser than I would prefer, it works but I suggest treating it with care. The third thing is that regardless of which way I put the switch, if I put too much force on the chain it can still pull through even though it should be locked to prevent it. A final note is that the handle can get in the way depending on where you place it, not a big deal but needs to be planned ahead when using. Now with all of that said, I still don't mind this hoist as long as it is used within the guidelines and with a little common sense. If you are looking for a light duty hoist for basic smaller projects, I feel I can recommend it to anyone looking. ... show more

    • Pretty Small -- but potentially useful

This is a pretty small, but potentially usefull doohickey. There is absolutely no way you'd want this on your belt for any length of time, so the belt-loop on the storage pouch is pretty silly. As is the picture of a guy wearing it around on the product page. It's not terribly long -- about 3 feet of chain or so, but I could see it being useful around the shop. Maybe safely removing/installing lathe chucks, Lifting vises, etc. A framer might be able to use it to pull rafters together before nailing, etc. But past that, I suppose I'll have to see where else it'll come in handy. Really, for my use cases, I'd prefer the chain was about twice as long, but I suppose that's an easy enough fix. ... show more

    • Super useful and easily portable

Ordered this to help me at work with lifting things that always need a chain and forklift to do so. I wanted a different faster and safer way of doing some of these little lifts and this solved that. The overall construction of this is good and I don't have any worries as for the safety of myself when operating this. The ratcheting part didn't give me any issues as long as I had some form of weight on the chain even if it was just my own hand weight so that the ratchet would work easily. It's heavy duty and it will lift the max without issue or worry. The fact that it fits inside its own little portable carrying bag which is the size of 2 water bottles or so makes this a dream tool. The only negative thing I can find is the fact that the chain is a little shorter than I wanted but I adapt and it's not a make or break issue for me. This lantern is very bright. It has so many options to set up as well. You can can it from either end or fold out the legs and sit it on a table or the ground.
