We've used this to lift our lawnmower and to hoist up some heavy parts to work them into place for our cars. My husband says that it's decent quality for smaller jobs. We didn't try to strain it to figure out just how much it would hold, since we want to use it as much as we can for the small stuff. It does well for him to do mechanic work and he's happy with it. We have it secured to a crossbeam in our drive through garage, which we use for doing our home mechanics work. It's gotten sporadic use in the last few months and it's doing fine. No rusting, straining, or broken parts. We're happy with this for the price.

I've never been an electric winch guy on off-road vehicles. Call me old-fashioned, but I've always gotten by with the old come-along, which these hoists are known as. Well, my dad borrowed my old one, and now it is gone. So, I needed a replacement. I thought to check Amazon to see what they had. I came across this product for a reasonable fee, and it seemed good so I ordered it. When I unboxed it, I was deeply impressed. It is very heavy duty, and well-built. Pretty amazing. But did it work? I put it to the test. Well, it pulled a deeply buried old 5ft steel scraper blade from a dark corner of my barn with very little effort. Yeah, it took a while. But it made a lousy job possible, and now it lives perched on my off-road vehicle. I do not doubt it will pull the vehicle from a muddy hole. Buy with confidence- this is a tool, not a toy.

Update: I had reason to lift my EGO mower again today and was able to take picture of the hoist in use. Please take note of one other safety issue: I lifted it just high enough to slide a pair of automotive jack stands beneath the front end the lowered the mower until most of the weight rested upon them. Safety first! And once again, this hoist is SO much better than a come along. [I'm so sorry that the pictures I took ended up getting destroyed when my camera's SD card fried. So use your imagination.] I used this hoist to lift the front of my 42” EGO battery powered ZTR up to swap out blades. I have a 5/16” eye bolt in the ceiling of my garage that's screwed into a truss that I have tied together with a 2"x6" across several other trusses to distribute the load (note: I caution everyone to take care in lifting a heavy load with any part of their ceiling structure!) and it's so much easier than those cable come alongs. I like a chain! It's as simple as switching the lever from up to down and just ratcheting the load either direction. I really like it and hope to try it out in a horizontal application sometime as well.

Small ratcheting lifting chain block with steel safety hook and metal ratchet. The end of the chain has a decent hook on it with a snap shut lock, the other end of the chain has a plastic loop to pull through fast. I'm not sure I'd trust this device with 500lbs of equipment but for small lifting jobs it will certainly take the weight off your back.

I got this come along to keep it in my truck, in case i need to load something that’s beyond my lifting capabilities. I had a small one before, and it worked ok in some situations. When this hoist arrived, i didn’t expect it to be this big and heavy. It sure gets the job done, i ended up using it to load a riding mower onto a flatbed, and it move’s couple hundred pounds on wheel without a hickup, but it’s a little bit of an overkill for me. I will keep it though, better have too much lift capacity than not enough

I've had an overhead chain host for a number of years, but it's kind of a nightmare to use for pulling things horizontally onto a trailer or anything else where the load is not directly below the hoist. So, when I saw this item, I was really excited. It turns out it's a lot like a tie down strap on steroids, and there are not lengths of chain all over the place to manage. For the cost, this feels pretty decent. If you don't get crazy with the weight you're pulling, I'd expect it to last a good, long while. The orange paint makes it easy to find, and the ratcheting mechanism engages smoothly. It's amazing how much force you can exert with so little effort. This hoist takes pretty much everything I hate about come-alongs and improves on it. Definitely a worthy addition to your stable of tools if you do any sort of construction, automotive, or farm and ranch work. It's priced a bit higher than your traditional chain hoist, and it wouldn't work as well as one of those for vertical lifting since you'd need to be up on a ladder or otherwise elevated to reach the handle to rotate it. But, for any sort of pulling, this is well worth it. Easier and safer than using big ratchet straps and come-alongs. I like it!
