Description

Let’s face it, cats have a tendency to get cooped up inside – and the fact that fences and apartment porches do nothing to contain them has something to do with it. You can fix all of the above for your feline friend and take outdoor play to the next level with the Outdoor Mega Kit by Kitty City. It creates a sunny, breathable, perfectly contained space with loads to explore, thanks to a large mesh frame. Interior coves give your cat a break in the shade, and there’s a large zip door for easy access for you. A tunnel door lets you extend the fun using a number of other Kitty City sets, or to create a tunnel leading from inside your home to an outdoor play area. And since it’s so spacious, it’s perfect for homes with two or more cats who could use a roomy feline jungle gym to play!

  • It IS easy to assemble!
Color: OUTDOOR MEGA KIT
THE NEED: We are renters in need of a catio solution that is easily transportable, lightweight, and that will allow our cats to spend time outdoors in a safe and secure environment. Most solutions I looked at weighed between 50-100 lbs while this one weighs less than 12. THE SET UP: There was a fear that this would be a rage inducing assembly resulting in a flimsy catio solution. I was wrong. It will take you about an hour to an hour and a half to assemble. Find yourself a nice big space to work with. I did mine outside in the yard, and was able to fit it through the door with no problem once completed. There are 45 cams and 89 rods plus the accessories inside; there is no difference in size between the cams and the rods so don’t worry about separating them based on any numbers or markings that you might see on the items. The biggest challenge is the instructions because they just aren’t very clear. There are an equal number of cams and rods on the TOP, the BOTTOM and the BACK. The interior is a little more tricky because there are spaces that DO NOT use cams and bars so use that picture on back to follow instructions. Altogether they’re 18 cubes comprising columns and rows. Total number of columns=6 (3 sets with one front and one back.) Total number of rows=6 (3 sets-top, middle and bottom) Follow step one and step two then flip to the back page to see the full set up. I found the picture instruction after step 1 & 2 difficult to understand. The picture on back will help you visualize those places in the interior that don’t have cams and rods which are primarily at the front where the door opening is. For the three accessories, which are the vinyl cubes the cats climb in and out of, there is a flap the rods must slide through before inserting into the cam. Facing the front of the catio, in the left most column (front row), the accessory cube with 2 holes and no mesh goes on the bottom row with one hole facing right and the other facing back. In the column immediately behind it, mount the double cube accessory on the very top row with the holes facing front. In the middle column (back column) mount the accessory cube with two holes and mesh on the lowest row. The mesh should be facing front. One hole faces left and one hole is on the top. In the 3rd column which on the farthest right, in the back column, mount the cat bed MESH SIDE UP in the MIDDLE row. This one has two different types of flaps the rods must go in. Place the vertical flaps down over the rods before placing the horizontal flaps in their corresponding rods, and set the pillow on top. Keep referring to the picture continually to see those spaces that do not have cams and rods. This is what took me longest. I went cube by cube in the picture to figure out those spaces that don’t use bars/cams. In the front columns and rows, there are many sections that do not have bars/cams. In the back set of columns, both the middle and right groups, each have sections without bars/cams. The picture on the back is your best friend figuring out which doesn’t have these. After you have the frame assembled, go back and tighten the rods inside the cams because they loosen as you work with the opposing tension. Now you’re ready to put on the mesh cover. The cover zips at the top, so look for the gray material that runs the entire length of the mesh and place it on the ground with the rest of the fabric UNDERNEATH it. The curving zipper also in gray fabric should be oriented towards the front. Unzip the long zipper with gray fabric flipping the flap backwards. Pick up the catio and place on top of the fabric bundle. Set the bottom inside the fabric bundle and slide the fabric up a little bit. Now pick up the whole thing and flip it over, meaning the top of the catio should be on the ground. Slowly work the fabric bundle down the frame, making sure to fit the corners properly over each corner cam at what will be the bottom of the catio once you right side it. Once you have most of the fabric fitted over the frame, pick the whole thing up again and flip it over so that the top is again at the top. Keep fitting the fabric to the top working opposite corners at a time. The hardest part will be getting the fabric edge over the last cam, then zip the whole thing up. The door should be at the front and should have no bars or accessories in front of it. The blue zipper hole should be on the right side of the frame. USING THE PRODUCT: One of the reasons I chose this item is because it is so light. This product slides easily wherever you want whether inside or outside. If you want to put it outside, it comes with for stake down bars. To use, unzip the front door and put the kitties in. The cube accessories inside support my 16 pound cat with no problem. THE RESULT: Day one of using the product has been very successful. The cats are really enjoying it and I am comfortable they are secure inside. Always keep the zippers at the top so kitties can’t fiddle around and open the product; there is no way they can get to the zippers in this position. The cats seem very happy and this item solved many problems for me, most especially they can’t get to the plants on the porch and possibly ingest something poisonous. At the same time, the product allows them to enjoy family time together on the patio, and I don’t have to see them glaring at me through windows longing to be outside. RECOMMENDATION: I will update this review in six months to discuss any changes however, at the onset, I’m very pleased with this product, am confident in its security to protect my precious kitties, but most importantly, they are very happy, and that was the goal. Thus, I am able to recommend this product and believe it is a perfect solution for many people, seeking a safe, secure catio solution. WRAP UP: I don’t know if these instructions will help you but I’ve tried to give some clarification for a product which could be difficult for some to assemble. Have patience and just go slow. It really is a great solution for many of us. ... show more

  • Easy Assembly, reasonably sturdy, roomy
Color: OUTDOOR MEGA KIT
Size: It is a very roomy size. I am impressed. + Be sure to note : It will not fit through some doorways, so if you are planning to assemble it inside, check the measurements of any doorways in will need to go through first! Sturdiness: The structure is reasonably strong, sturdy and not flimsy at all. A note about the inside squares: This cat enclosure is very good for kittens and young, spry cats that can easily jump from one soft top section to another without needing much support. There are no solid supported landings for adult cats unless they jump down to the floor and up from the floor. I have an older 9lb cat that loves this cat enclosure. I adjusted it and lowered the upper square seat so they can get in and out. The zipper works best when gentle, similar to how you would zip and unzip a tent door. It is reasonably durable but the zipper track has split a few times. I have easily reset it by gently backtracking and then zipping it again. This not a discouragement to buying it, my cat loves it and so do I! Easy Assembly: Easily assembled. Patience is the key. If you do not pre-read the diagram & then follow the diagram directions step by step and instead rush ahead you will likely need to go back and redo it. I was able to assemble it easily by following the diagram directions as listed. There are no instructions about the netting, however it goes on exactly as shown on the box with the round entry hole on the right hand side. It is the last step. It took a little strategy to line it up, but when on easily and was the correct size. You need to be patient and gentle in sliding it on. Extra Parts: The kit comes with a few extra parts for future additions, replacements or adjustments you want to make. I has 1 firm cushion that comes with it for the upper right hand side square. You can personalize a little bit as you want it to be: I have added my own cat things to personalize my cat's space. I added a square flat box as a corrugated scratch box, a cat bed and another softer cushion, a square flat box of cat grass that I grew at home, a cover on part of the top for shade and water dish. I added my own little padding between the top of the poles and the net to help keep the netting in good condition. Outdoors or Indoors: I have it set up on my porch deck so that it is not on the ground to keep from fleas, etc. and in the shade of the porch roof cover. This is sturdy enough that you could prop it up off the ground if you do not have a porch/deck. This could be used indoors as a play area. I had it inside, leaving the door open, for two days for my cat to get use to it and explore it before I set it outside. When I put my cat in it outside for a while, my cat does not want to leave it and give me a fuss about coming back inside, lol! Price: I could not afford the pricing of a wooden cat enclosures & am not talented enough to make my own without it being a big project and learning experience to build one. This enclosure it the perfect next best thing in my opinion and within my affordability of saving up for. Recommendation: It is newly purchased so I do not know about longevity. My cat and I are very happy with my purchase so far. I wrote review in detail for the next person who is considering it. I know what it is like wondering if your money is going to a good purchase or if the purchase would be fitting for what you need it for. Suggested reminder: cats need to be observed and not left outside in it for long durations of time. I hope this is a helpful review for someone to benefit from. Have a blessed day! ... show more

  • What it does well, it does really well. What it does poorly, it really fails at.
Color: OUTDOOR MEGA KIT
We're fostering two 10 week old kittens and wanted this to help them transition to being in the house and also enclose them at night. Here are our observations from using it the last 3 weeks. 1) Seems to be perfect for kittens and maybe a cat on the smaller side. It's really not very big. Be sure to check the dimensions to see if your kitty will be too cramped. 2) We purchased the 1.0 version so the PVC pipes do not lock into place. This may be an issue if you have larger cats or ones that are more energetic. If they were to put a lot of weight behind a jump, they might move it but I don't think they could tip it. Perfect for kittens though. 3) The screen covering is much easier to put on if you tip the climbing gym on its side. That way you can put the bottom of the screen on first and then bring the sides up. 4) The screen fits way too snug. It only took two weeks and one of the bottom corners had popped a good-sized hole in the bottom. The manufacturer needs to provide a little more slack as I'm already having to pay for a replacement. Another idea would be to reinforce the corners with extra material, like tent manufacturers do. Very annoying that it's already got a hole and it's due to a design flaw. 5) The screen wraps all the way around, including on the bottom. This is good because it can be used outside and there is no fear of the kitten escaping, which I was worried about. However, this design comes with some serious problems regarding waste disposal and clean-up, that I really wish the manufacturer would address in their 3.0 version. The first is that the kittens need a place for litter. We found a Tupperware box but it's not an exact fit. It would be more convenient if they could just design one that fits exactly inside one of the footprint quadrants and can be removed easily. Along those lines, the second problem is that there is no easy way to remove the bottom screen for laundry. This is a big problem since once the smell of waste is on the material, the cat is more likely to use that spot for a bathroom in the future. We did discover that the screen can be washed in our washing machine using the gentle cycle, cold water and air fluff in the dryer. I think it would be better to have a zipper that goes completely around the bottom and allows for it to be removed easily and as often as necessary. Better yet, sell just the bottom as a replacement so I can have two (one being used and one being laundered). Right now, there is a zipper that goes around the top but is not removable. This is how you will slide the gym inside of the screen. The problem is it stays connected and it's on the top. Also, because of the litter box issues, we've had to put a tarp under the gym to keep any urine or feces off the floor. The litter box isn't an exact fit and so dirty litter is thrown out and the kittens will stand in the litter box but poop outside of it because they're getting bigger. I wish they would design a tarp specifically for this purpose and make it washable. Along the same lines, we've taken to putting puddle pads down in every quadrant on the lower level to catch urine or feces. These have to be thrown away constantly, because as soon as it smells like waste, the kittens think it's ok to use as a litter box and will pee directly on the puddle pad. The manufacturer could design a 14x14 pads that just uses velcro straps to attach to the support brackets. These could be removed as needed for laundering. 6) They need to place one extra long support pipe in the box. If you look at the picture you can see that there is no pipe right to the left of the door. That's because the pipe would need to be double the length and everything else is a standardized length. However, it doesn't make it sturdy in the middle, especially if these kittens ever attempt to climb the sides. We're going to go get a dowel and put it in that place instead. Feel free to ask me any other questions. ... show more

  • Herbie the Cat Loves It!
Color: OUTDOOR MEGA KIT
My cat, Herbie loves this thing!! I had been searching for months for a catio and had even gone to a home improvement store to price out PVC & connectors and I believe this was still the easier and better deal, I actually bought a “damaged” one from Amazon for $10 less but it was brand new and sealed, the outer box was just a little smooshed. It wasn’t missing anything. Very easy to assemble by following the directions. BUT, here are some things I did to make it more cat-friendly and sturdier. We left this in the house with the door wide open for a few days for him to get accustomed to it, it worked. I bought extra replacement parts, I believe it was 10 extra pipes and 3 connectors. I did this to basically make the entire thing a cage, reinforced. The way the original directions were, it had no poles around the door and I didn’t like that so it was an easy fix. I also bought a shaded tarp to zip tie to the top so that Herbie wasn’t being hit by direct sunlight and it lessens the amount of heat inside. Another reviewer mentioned that the little cubbies are not reinforced, so I cut cardboard squares and hot glued some fuzzy fabric to reinforce the bottoms of each cubby. I also did not like the setup for the cubbies in the directions and it took a few days of watching him to realize that he didn’t like the setup either, so I set it up differently. It is super lightweight, one person can carry this thing fully assembled. I do not recommend using it on windy days but don’t want it on the grass either so to anchor it down, I went to a home improvement store and bought 3 cement pavers 12 x 12 and glued carpet to them and set those on the bottom of the cage. It’s not going anywhere. I also put rubber stoppers on the bottom & top connector circles to protect the netting (see pictures). I will say that he is almost impossible get out of the catio if he’s in one of the cubbies so we’ve been treat training him to get him to come out so we can grab him and take him in the house. I stop him from chewing holes in the netting, the size is perfect (not too big or small), it’s a little ghetto in appearance but I don’t care what people think. Due to me adding cardboard glued fabric, it’s not really rain proof so we take it inside during adverse weather. It does not fit through our sliding glass door but it does fit (barely) through our standard-sized front entry door. I really have zero complaints about this thing. I will say that the product listing/advertisement on Amazon is a little confusing. The review of mine that you’ve been reading is referring to the most expensive item in the listing but it appears people have reviewed/complained about replacement netting and poles thinking that was the catio (“it just fell apart!”). Yes, it’s going to fall apart if you’re spending $30 on the random replacement netting and such, this was about $74 when I bought and $15 more for the extra pieces (well worth it). Seriously, it’s easy, lightweight, safe for my cat (mostly supervised) and we’re all happy! Plus I can dismantle it for the winter bc it’s so easy to assemble! ... show more

  • Durable and easy set up - Cats LOVE it!
Color: OUTDOOR MEGA KIT
My cats LOVE this thing - they chill in it whether I have it outside or inside - I've started putting their treats in all the different sections so the dogs can't get to them anymore - I have made plans to get connection tubes and build them a little city that can go in and out when they want or when the dogs and I are outside on a nice day! It's way sturdier than I expected and was way easy to put together all by myself. There are even extra parts just in case. I like that there are several different ways to 'open' it up and it's easy to zip it all up and keep them where you know where they are and safe! ... show more

  • Upgraded their enrichment time ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Color: OUTDOOR MEGA KIT
This is the second time I’ve bought a catio for my 3 floofs. The first one was a snap-together metal-type thing that was not enclosed like this, so my cats of course found their way out. Now I have only just put this one up so my boy Milo MAY one day find a way to open the zippers, but I’m really glad this one has a cover that fits around the entire thing. One thing is I want for the “used - very good” and unfortunately am missing several rods and connectors. So, spend the extra cash and get the new item so you don’t have missing parts. Beside that, I love that there are little hidey holes and cubbies for them to seek refuge when they get overwhelmed, I love that there are multiple tiers and they have room to jump around. The quality of the mesh seems pretty decent and durable although again, I haven’t had this for long at all. But my cats didn’t absolutely annihilate it upon entering and they seemed very comfortable and at ease walking along and checking it out so that makes me happy. Putting it together was simple. I mean my brother helped so it came together twice as fast as it would’ve if I’d been by myself 🤣 but I’ve figured these things out before pretty quickly and I’m sure anyone can. My kids had fun helping and then watching our cats play in it. When I told the kitties it was time to come in, Milo decided it was ACTUALLY time to plant his butt on the top level in the little sitting cube, pictured. It seems pretty safe but I’d still rather supervise them while they’re in it as I don’t want their claws to get stuck or they get half out a zippered opening and strangle themselves. I’ll update this months down the road once it’s got some wear and tear. Also my favorite part about this is that you can attach other kitty city items to it and make it BIGGER. It’s like a giant Lego set for cat people. You’re not limited to size or shape, can pretty much design the interior and tunnels how you want. ... show more

  • My honest opinion👍👎🏻
Color: OUTDOOR MEGA KIT
What we do for the animals we love😊 As I said in my video this is very large in which I knew and wanted for my cat to be able to move around and climb up higher than just ground level. We always feel bad when we let our dog outside and my cat whom is an indoor cat just watches and really really wants to go out ! I thought this would be the next best thing for her , plus price being not extremely expensive but in the middle (kind of ) I would give it a try . The reviews on this product were really good as well. It’s not heavy which is nice and it’s huge so if that’s what you are looking for you will like that aspect. If you don’t mind the appearance of this catio you will like it as I stated it’s huge so it’s an eyesore! Had it on my covered large farmhouse porch and it took up ALOT of it . I planned on moving it to the grass and another day under a tree for my cat but as stated it’s not really so convenient to move around . It may come apart while moving it. but The netting was never put on because my husband tried to place it on for an hour with much cursing and then said forget it so maybe the netting holds it together better. Normally he can put together anything BUT…. I built 1/2 inside because it doesn’t fit through doors then the rest outside , but while bringing outside it started falling apart so had to rebuild the whole thing all over again ! Way too much of a project for me . All in all it’s not a bad catio but definitely not for me so it’s going back tomorrow. I am going to have to spend at least $40 to $50 more dollars than the price of this one I think but that’s A OK w/ me at this point as just the aggravation alone is not worth it . Plus something more attractive is important to me . Gave it 3 stars PROS.. large , lightweight, price is less than some large catios , sturdy I think ? also The company has attachments to go in if you want. CONS .. not really movable , won’t go through doorway , parts and pieces come off, time consuming to build and next to impossible to put netting on and unattractive all plastic … I recommend if the cons are ok with you , otherwise then I don’t recommend. Hope this review was helpful as I rely so much on other peoples reviews as well. ... show more
