This replacement wire whip was bought as an addition to the (still working great) nearly 33 years-old original. It fits perfectly and works just as well as its older version. Having read other reviews I placed both (old and new wire whips) side-by-side, looking at them from others' perspectives. I found that the old one : 1. is heavier 2. is still shiny after decades of hard use 3. appears to be of a more substantial quality Looks aside, this new whip performs just as well as the older one. I'm not sure why someone would complain that a whip could break unless the item happened to escape quality control. If the whip is the correct part for the mixer, it's correctly locked into place, it should perform well. A whip is used to whisk air into a mixture, not for blending ingredients. For example, it's used to make whipped cream and meringues. The addition of sugar--whether 10x or granulated--to the cream or egg whites doesn't force the thin wires to do heavy duty work. I scored a used KitchenAid for $85, but the wire whip that came with it broke during the car ride home - I took a roundabout too fast and didn't secure the mixer properly. So, I bought this replacement and had it shipped the next day because, you know, happy wife, happy life. She’s happy with it, and it looks identical to the one I broke. Packaging on this was terrible. The original product box, which is not very sturdy, was just inside one of those lightweight paper packages. That paper package was pretty beaten up, and the box was smashed pretty badly on one end. Fortunately, the whisk doesn't appear damaged. The other thing I was not happy with is that it is NOT stainless steel like my old one was, and says to NOT put it in the dishwasher. I haven't used it yet, but assume it will be fine as it IS a genuine Kitchenaid. ... show more

    • Not actually stainless steel.
It fits, but it's not actually stainless steel. the wires are, but the base is aluminum with a chrome-like coating that gets destroyed if you mistakenly put it in the dishwasher, after which the base sheds gray powder any time you touch it.
