This is a review for the KitchenAid Gourmet Forged Triple Rivet Knife Block Set with Built-in Knife Sharpener, High-Carbon Japanese Stainless Steel Kitchen Knives, Sharp Kitchen Knife Set with Block, 14 Piece, Black This is a very nice set of knives. Here are some of my observations: Build Quality: The stamping on the knives say that they are made from Japanese Steel. This type of steel is typically a bit harder than German steel. This allows the knives to retain their edge for a bit longer. But the drawback is that they are a bit more brittle and are more susceptible to chipping. To date, I do not have any chips on my knives. (im only cutting things like meats, fruits, and vegetables on a wood cutting board). These came out of the box EXTREMELY sharp. Looking down the edge of the blade it looks like the bevel is very uniform and provides a great Cutting edge. Design: these are a very clean looking set of knives. These are a single piece design where the handle and blade are made from the same part of steel. The shape of the handle Fits into my hand very well and has a great curve profile that makes it easy to hold. The balance point of the knives seem to be right at the heel of the blade. None of the knives have a Bolster. (some people prefer to have them since it provides a bit of extra protection for your fingers, however it makes it harder to sharpen). Knife Block: the knife Block has a built in Sharpening tool. I’m on the fence on whether of not I like it. It only has a single blade profile and it only has a sharpening steel in it. (its missing a Honing ceramic) This will not get the blades back to tip-top shape. The wood in the block is solid and the manufacturer engraved their Brand into the bottom-front of the block. Overall: Currently I have a few really nice Wusthof knives that are my everyday knives. My Wusthof are not a part of a set I I just got a few that I knew I would use everyday. When comparing these new Kitchen-aid knives to these, here is what I think… I think the kitchen-aid has a better handle that feels a bit more comfortable. The Kitchen-aid knives feel a bit lighter so I can work w/ them for an extended period of time. However I still prefer the Wusthof blades due to the ruggedness and they feel more solid when working w/ a wide array of foods. Side Note: I love the Kitchen-aid Bread knife. In the past I’ve only ever had a cheap bread knife and they always smushed my bread when slicing. This knife slices bread very well and doesn’t deform it. ... show more
