  • Love it
So far, I am pleased with this machine. It's very easy to set up and has some cool features like being able to make 2 cups of coffee at once. The grinder is quieter than my old unit and the hopper holds a good amount of beans. I haven't tried the option to brew with pre ground coffee yet, but I will eventually as I do enjoy flavored coffee which is easier to find in pre ground format. ... show more

  • Does as advertised and makes a great cup of coffee. Does as advertised and makes a great cup of coffee.
I want to start off by saying this is a great espresso machine. At the end of the day, the most important thing is how the coffee tastes, and this machine delivers. It consistently makes a rich, flavorful espresso that comes out piping hot. I've been very happy with the quality of the drinks it produces, and it has quickly become part of my daily routine. The machine is also very easy to use. Once everything is filled and ready to go, making a cup of espresso is straightforward and doesn't require much effort. If you're looking for the convenience of a fully automatic machine without having to manually grind, tamp, and pull shots yourself, this machine does a great job of simplifying the process. One thing I think buyers should know before purchasing is that this machine uses a lot more coffee beans and water than I expected. It seems to go through both fairly quickly, especially if you're making multiple drinks each day. You'll likely find yourself refilling the bean hopper and water reservoir more often than you might anticipate. The drip tray also fills up quickly, so emptying it becomes part of the regular routine. I also want to address the noise level because I feel the product listing can be a little misleading. The Amazon page makes it seem like this machine is nearly silent, but that simply isn't the case. It definitely makes noise while grinding beans and brewing espresso. However, I wouldn't call it excessively loud either. The sound level is very similar to what you'd hear from the espresso machines at your local coffee shop. It's completely normal for a machine like this, but buyers shouldn't expect whisper-quiet operation. Cleaning and maintenance are actually some of my favorite aspects of this machine. Everything has been designed to be easily accessible. The drip tray slides out effortlessly, making it simple to empty and clean. The brew unit also unlocks and pulls out with very little effort, allowing you to rinse it off in just a few minutes. Regular maintenance doesn't feel like a chore, which is important for a machine you'll be using every day. My biggest criticism is the price. At the time I received this machine, the base model was selling for around $800. While it certainly makes excellent espresso, I don't feel the overall feature set or performance justifies that price point. Since this is KitchenAid's entry-level fully automatic model, I expected it to offer a bit more for the cost. In my opinion, it feels much more like a $400 to $500 machine. I'm glad to see the price has come down, because at that range it becomes a much stronger value and one I'd be much more comfortable recommending. Overall, I'm happy with this espresso machine because it consistently makes great coffee and is easy to maintain. Despite my concerns about the bean and water consumption, noise level, and original asking price, the machine itself performs well where it matters most. If you can find it on sale in the $400 to $500 range, I think it's an excellent buy. At its original $800 price, however, I'd recommend looking at other fully automatic espresso machines before making a decision. ... show more

  • Makes fantastic coffee, easy to use Makes fantastic coffee, easy to use
I have been using this KitchenAid fully automatic Espresso/Coffee machine for a little over a month now and am completely impressed. First this has a sleek design that looks nice on the counter tops without taking up too much horizontal space. It has the look of a mini coffee shop right on your counter. It is a lot longer than it is wide which I appreciate but you do have to keep in mind that you will have to rotate the machine sideways in order to add water which you add from the back. I wish this had little wheels to move on the bottom for me to more easily rotate to add water but it does not. The water container on the back is clear and easy to see the water levels, it also has clear marking lines so that you can see how much you have added. You place the beans in the top of the machine by removing a section of the top lid. You can also use ground coffee however I have not tried out that feature as I only use whole beans. The grind is good on this but you can't adjust the grind other than 1,2 or 3 bean for strength as far as I can tell. The machine will let you know when it is out of water, beans or the collection tray for used coffee/ water needs to be changed. There is a drawer in the front bottom to remove used coffee grinds and water collected. Very easy to clean out. The button to turn it on is on the side. When you first turn this on in the morning it will go through a quick clean out cycle that takes a few seconds before it's ready to go. You then select how you would like to make your cup of joe. This is incredibly easy to learn to use and isn't complicated at all. You can chose espresso, coffee, over ice, hot water or steam, then you go down and chose one or two cups, one two or three bean, and you are ready to go. I drink my coffee black however I like to drink it more like an Americana so I make my coffee and then add a cup of water. You are able to stop the water mid stream if you only want half a cup or less. The little want to the side moves out to add your water, or froth your milk. I love how easy this is to make exactly what you want and customize to your own liking, plus it only takes a few minutes. I've played around with this quite a bit to make some wonderful creations experimenting to see if I would like something more than my usual cup. This does make some noise when grinding and brewing, and you can hear it going for sure but as far as coffee machines this is on the quieter side. This seems very well made and so far I've been pleasantly pleased. I love that it comes from the KitchenAid brand as that is a brand I've used for many years and have grown to love and trust. I feel like this will work for many years to come. Overall I'm super happy that I got this machine and while it is in fact expensive at the current list price of $799.99 it does end up saving me a lot of money from going out to buy coffee every morning in just a few short months of use. I do think this is a very good value for the price and have no regrets on getting this. ... show more

  • Perfect for non-coffee snobs!
This is an awesome machine for folks like me who want an easy coffee option at home without having to learn the ins and outs of perfecting the grind, the temperature, and all the nuances that coffee connoisseurs take joy in learning. I just want to push a few buttons and have a fun coffee drink in the morning, and this allows me to do that! The setup is easy. Make sure you have whole beans on hand to do the first setup/priming! You'll want to run water and grind beans through it before you take your first sip. I've owned a number of other espresso and coffee machines, none this intense, and the setup of this was honestly easier than I expected for having a hopper/grinder built in! I also appreciate that it has a large water filter included that has an interesting but easy way to install in the water tank. Also, despite being so fancy, I like that this does not need a direct water line. Once you get this setup, it's honestly straightforward to use! Even more straight forward than more basic espresso machines. Dump some beans in the hopper, pick what kind of coffee you want, (espresso? Coffee? Iced coffee?) dose, and strength and let it do its thing! It's also got a steam wand that's easy to use and heats the milk up quickly for hot drinks. The head where the coffee drips from is moveable to accommodate an espresso glass or a large mug, which is really nice! It allows you to put an espresso glass under without a lot of splashing and put a tall mug (close to pint glass size) under for days where you need allllll the coffee 😉 Another thing I didn't realize at first is that this does also allow you to use preground coffee! I didn't realize that at first! I have a bunch of preground stuff not having had a good grinder previously but now I realize I can still use that in this! So don't worry if you have some to use up. It won't go to waste! The drawbacks... This is definitely not for coffee snobs. This does not allow you to fine tune the temperature or the grind of your coffee. There are ways for you to change the temp and grind mentioned in the manual, but they are not easy and don't have a great interface. If you're looking for something that is going to allow you to easily change the flavor with the temp or the grind based on the roast, this is not the machine for you. With all the bells and whistles on this, you'd think it would be programmable to make you some espresso at a specific time in the morning but, alas, it is not. Luckily it will make it in less than 3 minutes, so it's not like making a pot of drip coffee. But as someone who will wake up and be in a meeting 10 minutes later, having coffee made without thinking about it in those 10 minutes would be amazing. Finally, the price is a little steep for what you're getting. It feels like you're paying for the brand more than anything. Don't get me wrong, I expect this thing to last me a really long time despite the moving parts considering my KitchenAid mixer is older than I am! But $800 for making a few types of espresso drinks without finer control over the settings is a bit wild in my opinion. ... show more

  • Low effort, cafe quality espresso at home!
I’ve owned several espresso machines over the years, including higher-end pod systems, and the KitchenAid K2 honestly surprised me in the best way. It looks incredibly sleek and professional on the counter — very much that “small café at home” vibe — and so far the actual espresso quality has absolutely lived up to the appearance. I’ve tested the single and double espresso settings, the iced coffee mode, and the milk steamer, and everything has worked beautifully right out of the box. The espresso comes out rich, smooth, and cafe-quality with a really nice crema. Honestly, the drinks taste like something I picked up from a local espresso stand, except I’m making them in my kitchen with almost no effort. One of my favorite features is that it stores whole beans and grinds fresh for every shot. You can absolutely taste the difference compared to pre-ground coffee or capsule machines. I’ve been using a well known name brand organic medium roast beans and have been seriously impressed with the flavor this machine pulls out of them. Even better, I haven’t had any issues with grounds ending up in my espresso shots, which is something I’ve experienced with some other machines. The K2 also lets you adjust the strength with three intensity settings (low, medium, and strong), which is nice depending on the beans or type of drink you want. The milk steamer was another huge win. I previously used a Nespresso Creatista, which already has a pretty decent steam wand, but the K2’s steamer is noticeably more powerful and heated my milk almost twice as fast. That alone impressed me. It creates great foam, heats evenly, and feels much more like using a true espresso machine rather than an appliance trying to imitate one. If you make lattes or cappuccinos regularly, this machine really shines there. That said, there are a couple quirks worth mentioning. The biggest one is how it handles double shots. Instead of grinding enough beans for a double and pulling both shots together, it literally grinds, pulls one shot, then repeats the entire process for the second shot. It works fine and the espresso tastes excellent, but it does make the process slower than expected. It feels like something that could have been designed a little differently on a machine in this price range. Minor complaint overall, but definitely noticeable if you make larger drinks frequently. The machine is also larger than I expected. It’s narrow and visually compact from the front, but it takes up almost the full depth of my counter. The drip tray is enormous and runs nearly the full length/depth of the machine, which makes it slightly awkward to carry and empty. On the flip side, the larger tray means you aren’t constantly running to the sink after every couple drinks. The used coffee grounds are collected in a removable container integrated into the drip tray assembly, which is convenient, although mine was already full after about six shots. Given how much espresso I drink daily, I’ll probably be emptying it every day. Overall, I genuinely love this machine. At around $799, it actually feels reasonably priced for the quality, features, and overall experience you’re getting. It feels premium, makes genuinely excellent espresso, steams milk quickly and effectively, and looks beautiful sitting on the counter. Most importantly, it has already made me want to use it constantly, which is probably the best review I can give an espresso machine. A few design choices could be improved, but none of them are dealbreakers for me. If you want a fully automatic espresso machine that delivers fresh-ground, coffee shop-quality espresso at home with very little effort, the KitchenAid K2 is a fantastic option. ... show more

  • Produces Rich, Café-Quality Coffee and Specialty Drinks With Surprisingly Easy Setup Produces Rich, Café-Quality Coffee and Specialty Drinks With Surprisingly Easy Setup
Summary: Excellent fully automatic espresso machine that is surprisingly easy to use while still producing rich, flavorful coffee and espresso drinks. The built-in Intelligrind system, customizable settings, and one-touch drink options make this much more premium and convenient than standard home coffee makers. Expensive upfront, but easily worth it for frequent coffee and cappuccino /latte drinkers. Review: I am not personally a coffee or espresso connoisseur, but my partner is and both my partner and I have been extremely satisfied with the quality of the coffee and espresso this machine produces. The drinks taste rich, smooth, and far more rich and refined than what we were getting from standard single-serve coffee machines (or from the popular coffee place everyone goes to). The standout feature for me is absolutely the built-in Intelligrind grinder system. The machine automatically detects the bean type and roast level and adjusts the grind and dosing accordingly, so you get consistently good flavor without having to manually figure out complicated settings yourself. That makes this especially great for people who want high-quality espresso drinks without needing professional barista knowledge. Another thing I appreciate is how easy the machine is to use despite all the features it offers. Setup was straightforward, and most functions are extremely intuitive. You can customize drink strength, choose between one or two cups, and quickly switch between coffee, espresso, iced drinks, and milk-based drinks with simple button controls. You can also make it more or less bold with the touch of a button! The variety of drink options is also impressive. We’ve used it for standard coffee, espresso, iced coffee, and lattes using the steam wand/frother. The over-ice setting is especially nice because it helps preserve the flavor instead of creating watered-down iced coffee. One feature I did not expect to appreciate as much as I do is the quieter grinding system. Compared to many coffee machines and grinders, this one is noticeably quieter and much less disruptive in the mornings. The machine also is surprisingly compact for everything it offers. It looks and performs like what it is: a premium and high-end machine without taking over the kitchen counter, and the matte black finish gives it a sleek, modern appearance. The upfront cost is definitely significant, but when you factor in the price of buying coffee /lattes daily you figure it’s worthwhile because we are making far fewer trips to coffee shops and no longer buying specialty coffees outside the home regularly. Over time, I this will pay for itself. Overall, this is an excellent automatic espresso machine for someone who wants convenience, customization, and consistently great coffee without needing advanced espresso-making experience. ... show more

  • This can do everything! What a great machine. This can do everything! What a great machine.
What an impressive machine! I love the slim profile of this (although it has a long depth). Get an appliance slider for it and you will thank me, as that will make it a dream to pull out and slide back in. This machine is quite HEAVY! I have owned a lot of automatic coffee machines and they all have positives and some negatives. I currently have an expensive $1500 coffee machine and this KitchenAid espresso machine comes in at almost half the price, but produces the SAME level of coffee for so MUCH LESS! So, it really comes down to which bells and whistles you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend on getting those. But, when comparing both machines, I honestly, feel this KA does great job and you can achieve pretty much all the same specialty drinks. This has 6 pre-programmed for hot and iced recipes . You can make an Espresso (bold single or double shots), an Americano (espresso diluted with hot water), a Cappuccino (espresso with steamed milk and foam), a Latte (espresso with more steamed milk), an Iced coffee (brewed at lower temperature to preserve flavor), an Iced espresso (cold espresso shots) With the built-in steam wand, you can also (manually) customize any drinks like macchiatos, flat whites, or cortados by adjusting the milk-to-espresso ratio to your preference. So, you can really DO IT ALL. Some people prefer a steam wand to froth the milk verses dedicated milk carafes. It has a small learning curve, but once mastered, you are a professional barista! This automatically grinds your beans, so you get the best, freshest tasting coffee! Unfortunately, you do not have a situation to "bean switch" from regular to decaf (that will come with a $1500 price tag) HOWEVER, you can easily use a pre-ground decaf coffee as this machine has a bypass doser that allows you to use pre-ground coffee instead of whole beans. Simply load your pre-ground coffee into the bypass doser on top of the machine, and it will brew just like using the built-in grinder. This gives you flexibility to switch between whole beans ANY pre-ground coffee. (especially great if you still have regular grounds hanging around before making this purchase) Overall, I am very pleased with the results and feel this is a great coffee maker that you will absolutely enjoy at under $800 that can literally do what those elite (highest priced) machines can do! AND it will take little space in your kitchen!!! win/win! ... show more
