  • Great purchase
I love this mixer. I've always used a hand held and there is no comparison. I originally wanted the tilt version but when this mixer arrived it was so tall (17") that when I placed it on my counter it just fit under the cabinets. With the tilt back style I would have had to pull it forward every time I wanted to remove the bowl. Not a problem with the lever style I don't have to move it at all. It is easy to use, I have no problem getting all the batter or whatever off the paddle. It is a workhors. It is great for baking recepies but I especially love it for meatloaf. It definately needs the shield to prevent splashing. I have only high praise for this product and wish I had bought it sooner. ... show more

  • VERY different from hand-held beaters
This product is a big transition for someone accustomed to using a hand-held beater. It's very sturdy and does not bog down with thicker batter. Mixes throughly and the splash guard is somewhat awkward, but works. However, I wish this either tilted back or had a way for you to spin as much of the batter off the beater as possible. Disconnecting the beater and removing it while the bowl is still in place leaves more batter than I like on the beater and trying to remove the bowl with the beater still attached is even worse. I spend too much time scraping batter off the beater. Maybe buyers who are not as cheap as I am won't be bothered by this, but I hate to waste anything. ... show more

  • keeps breaking planetary gear keeps jamming
Color: White Size: 8 Quart
KitchenAid Commercial 8-Quart Stand Mixer keeps breaking planetary gear keeps jamming. I have had a KitchenAid for over 20 years without a problem, this one has been one problem after another. I would not recommend purchasing it until they improve their quality controls and stop using inferior parts and materials. Go to a yard sale and purchase a used mixer. The new KitchenAid mixers are poor quality and inferior to the older models. ... show more

  • Sturdy and Powerful
I need to be honest - my wife uses the mixer 90% of the time. However, I do know that she is thrilled with this product, because she tells me each and every time she uses it! First of all it is a well-built piece of equipment. It is heavy and sturdy. The motor hums along without any noticabel whine. What this tells my inner-engineer is that thing has been built to last. I am very impressed with the overall construction, and I have no doubts that this product will last for 10+ years. At first my wife was a little concerned that the head did not tilt back. However, after a few uses she found that she preferred the non-tilt variety, since it reduced messes and made it easier to clean (I am not sure what her logic is behind this - but she tells everyone not to buy a mixer with a tilting head). As far as performance - it mixes everything she wants to mix. She has made cakes, cookies, and an assortment of other batters - none of which has posed a problem. My belief is that there is nothing you can put into this thing that it will not handle. Clean-up - now here I have a lot of first-hand knowledge. It really is not that hard. You simply take the stainless steel bowl off the unit and rinse it under the sink. It is also easy to clean the unit itself - the black finish is resistant to fingerprints and doesn't look "messy" when left on the counter. Pros- - Great construction - Variable speeds - Plenty of Power - Easy clean-up Areas for improvement - Well it is heavy. I am not sure how it can be "Sturdy" without being heavy. However, you definitely do not want to drop this thing on your toe... or your hardwood floors. - Some people may prefer a unit with a tilting head. Final tally - this is one of my wife's favorite purcahses since we have been married. 5 stars ... show more

  • Not up to expectation
I returned the item. It wasn't what I had expected. This is the industrial model. The head doesn't tilt backward, its heavy & a lot taller than a standard house mixer. I didn't like the fact that the bowl raised to meet the beater. I found it very hard to remove the bowl as well as the beater itself. The bowl capacity is no larger than that of the Artisan (which I replaced this item with). ... show more

  • Very Happy. Cookies are now an every week occurence.
I hemmed and hawwed A LOT before taking the plunge and buying this mixer. I tend to over-research every big purchase I make and end up second guessing my decision many times over.... however, since this arrived and I've used it several times, I must say that I am very pleased with it. To those who worry that they will not like the bowl lift (vs. the Artisan tilt) -- it's nothing to be worried about. It's so easy to use. The attachments take 2 seconds to attach and un-attach. And like any mixer, you take off the attachment and clean the batter (or whatever) out with a spatula and there you are. I read some review where the lady was concerned about wasting her batter. What?! I don't think she was un-attaching her paddle. I think she was trying to pull her bowl out from underneath -- you're not supposed to do that. Just un-attach the beater/paddle/hook and take both it and the bowl out and clean it off before you continue on with your baking. There is no wasted batter. Another helpful push toward the bowl lift -- you can use a cold water bath or warm water bath depending upon what you are making. Not so with an Artisan. Also, the pros all use bowl lifts. I think there are mechanical reasons for this. I read several things about the neck being a weak point, and also the swinging up and down causing things to shift. But I'm not an engineer so I have no idea if those are really serious issues. I also read that people LOVE their Artisans -- so like someone trying to decide between a Honda and a Toyota -- I think both are probably great choices and you wouldn't be UN-happy with either choice. (Unless something major goes wrong.) And one last thing. Everyone made it out to be this GI-NORMOUS thing that weighed more than an elephant. I'm not a big person. I don't work out. It's not THAT heavy. I'm not going to go carrying it around the house. But when it arrived, I put more oomph into picking up the box than I even needed... so, that was a pleasant surprise. ... show more
