As mentioned in other reviews - the plates are not both flat, but are curved (one concave, the other convex), which you can see in the picture. I actually love this for my baby bangs. There isn't any heat control - but I honestly don't care. I actually just start using it right away as it is heating up for lower heat. By the time I am done with my bangs, it probably isn't even up to full temp yet before I am putting it away. It is an extremely good value for what it is vs. the cost. Super recommend this to anyone who needs it for short hair or tiny bangs and isn't worried about a lot of control. It feels cheap-ish, but not so much that I was concerned. I did use it once in my long hair just to try to smooth a bump and it worked just fine - though the tip had a propensity to snag in my hair (but it is the wrong tool for the job, so it doesn't deserve to get dinged a star for that). It also is very easy to burn your forehead if you aren't paying attention - it doesn't have a large overhang to protect you from slip-ups. So if you are super clumsy, beware. ... show more

My hair is an absolute rat's nest when I wake up. The wavy curl has taken over and my style is just deplorable. This works amazingly! It's straightens. It curls. It gets around your ears really nice so that you're not burning your ears. The only cons to this is two things and it's the reason why I'm not giving it five stars. It does not have a temperature control. You turn it on and you get what you get. It gets seriously hot really fast. I mean within seconds. And it does pose a hazard to small children, adults if you're not watching what you're doing. It does not have a lock on it to close the unit. So it is always remaining open in a v with the heat plates exposed. Terrible for young children around and like I said, if you're not looking what you're doing and you reach out you can grab it, you could really hurt yourself. Also the very tip of it as your straightening and curling and want to use two hands, gets seriously hot. But if mine burns out, yeah, I'd get another one. ... show more

My new favorite flat iron. The only things I would change are: 1) the flat iron could be longer, the handle and the barrel itself. 2) I wish it had adjustable heat settings 3) it’d be nice if the barrel had a lock to keep it closed when you store it. BUT, even with those few piddly things, it’s still ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s for me. I have naturally curly hair, and it’s hard to get the baby pieces straightened with a 1” iron. The grip on the plates is awesome and it doesn’t pull your hair. I like using a flat iron to curl my hair, as well, and because the barrel has rounded edges, this works great and my heat curls stay and look full, soft, and fluffy. ... show more
