🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The KidKraft Appleton Swing Set receives mostly positive feedback for its great value and quality at an affordable price. However, assembly is noted to be challenging and time-intensive, often requiring multiple people and several hours to complete. The overall sturdiness and appeal to children make it a worthy purchase for families. Some reviewers noted issues with pre-drilled holes not aligning and wood splitting during assembly, but these were not deemed deal-breakers.

Pros

  • 🏆 Great value for the cost
  • 🎢 Appeals to children of various ages
  • 🔨 Sturdy once assembled
  • 📋 Detailed instructions provided

Cons

  • ⏰ Time-consuming assembly
  • 🛠 Requires multiple people for assembly
  • 🚧 Some alignment issues with pre-drilled holes
  • ⚙️ Potential for wood splitting during assembly

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for an affordable and sturdy option that your kids will love, and you don't mind dedicating time and effort to assemble it, the KidKraft Appleton Swing Set is a solid purchase. It might not be the best fit for those seeking a quick and easy setup or if you're planning for it to accommodate older children.

  • Nice little playset for the price
Style: Appleton
We bought this for our grandbabies, age 1 and 2, along with the pictured baby swings. The install was not difficult, just time consuming. Although we broke it up into 2 evenings and a Saturday morning. So with 2 people it took about 5 hours start to finish to assemble and secure. We have it in a full shade area but will be putting an additional seal on it this fall when the weather is slightly cooler. There were a few spots on the boards that were starting to split or were chipped on the end. But nothing that effected installation or use and once together it was not visible. We are very happy with this and our grandbabies love it. ... show more

  • a full day's work
Style: Appleton
This is amazingly sturdy. It took two of us (father and adult son) approximately 8 hours to assemble it. The directions were outstanding and generally easy to follow. The hardware and the wood were all labeled which made this a smooth project. Each step in the directions listed exactly what hardware and wood pieces were needed. Thank God for that! An electric drill, a heavy hammer, and a ratchet set are essential. Do not try to do this alone unless you have two days dedicated to nothing else. Stay organized!!! Don't worry there are extra pieces of hardware included or I hope they are extra. The best part of the day was when my 2 1/2-year-old grandson took the first ride on the slide and swings. He watched us all day and we got big hugs and kisses. I expect this will be a big part of their lives for years to come. ... show more

  • Directions are brutal
Style: Appleton
Love the final product but putting it together was rough. Luckily there are videos of people online I googled who showed putting it together. The directions are garbage, some holes don’t match up. The wood did have a split in it prior to us putting it together but it was manageable. If you are not used to building items and are not adaptable to creating new holes, making things work etc- don’t get this set. If you’re handy and can figure it out- it’s not horrible and it took us about 7 hours to put together but we were kinda just going with the flow and not rushing to get it done. Also make sure you are building on a very flat surface it will make it easier to put pieces together accurately. ... show more

  • Great product for the cost!
Style: Appleton
Very nice play set for small yard. Priced well for the cost. Strongly recommend customers add a few extra boards for safety behind green vinyl chalk board. Not a safe play area without added lumber for support.

  • Great value very simple set up!
Style: Appleton
We purchased this swing set for our two boys (2 years old and 8 months). The set and instructions were great! The beginning of the instructions tell you what hand tools you need, and show you each piece of wood and hardware you should have. All of the wood was labeled, all of the hardware was individually bagged and labeled. Each page tells you what wood pieces and what hardware you will need for each step. For 90% off the set up you can do this by yourself. It took me 3 days dedicating 4 hours of work each day. Pros: - Affordable - Good Value - Easy set up - Kids love it Cons: - One small piece of wood had a moderate split (didn’t affect the outcome). ... show more

  • Thing rocks more than Spinal Tap

So the thing was a pain to put together but ok that's a big job. There were like 5 different bits needed, a little bit annoying but OK. At least they used those square heads those dont slip. It was light, easy to move. The stakes provided to lock it down were pretty lame. OK but here's the problem. The swing side is OK. The tower side SUCKS. Ok first, I took off the weak ass 6x1's around the base and put in some beefy 2x4s. I locked them down with some self auguring stakes. That did the job as far as holding it down. The big problem is the design where the tower attaches to the swings. It has to translate through first the main bolt to a weak ass 1 inch piece. Then it translates through several other square, unbraced joints until it hits the braces on the bottom. I'm going to need to get at least 2 more 2x4's MAYBE 4, to brace the structure directly to the base. And those cedar pieces are expensive. Already spent around 100 bucks to stabilize it at the base - NOT counting the pegs. NOW spending another probably $75 to brace the 1" main post - which I wish I could also beef up - Oh and the sad SINGLE triangle brace in the ENTIRE tower side cracked right down the middle. So yeah good thing I have enough wood to replace that. So thanks for the extra $250. Like shits not expensive enough without having to foot the bill for your chintzy engineering budget. ... show more

  • Not Bad, Not Great
Style: Appleton
I bought this swing set on sale for $300 and honestly it was worth the price but just barely. The wood is very cheap but all in pretty good condition other than some warping on a few pieces. I learned quickly that you don’t tighten the screws until they are tight but just before the washers start digging into the soft wood. Assembly took a long time but the instructions were actually pretty good. I did run into a number of problems where the pre-drilled holes just didn’t line up right. I double checked the instructions and I was definitely doing it the right way. The swing set ended up being pretty crooked even though 90% of it was pre-drilled holes. I ended up drilling my own holes and shifting some of the boards to get it more level. The swing set itself is not very sturdy but they do provide wood stakes to help keep it steady. Make sure you have an area of flat ground otherwise it’s a lot more wobbly. All in all the set looks nice and works but I don’t think I’d let anyone over 8 years old play on it. I sat on a swing and it felt sturdy enough but I didn’t dare actually swing. ... show more

  • Perfect!
Style: Appleton
Let me start by saying, I’m a 30 year old FEMALE with limited “building” skills. I’m impatient and instead of waiting for help I went ahead and attempted to build. I built this ALL BY MYSELF! It did take me about 3 days building for about 3 hours each day. Not difficult to build at all as long as you follow the directions. The directions were easy to follow and it did come with the drill bit needed so that was nice. It is a very small swing set but that’s what I was looking for. I have a 1 and 4 year old and it’s perfect for them! ... show more
