Build quality is good. I like that the wire is encased in flexible conduit and there is an indicator light to let you know the unit is on. Both very nice features but let's talk about the on and off temps. On at 86 degrees and off at 131 degrees??! I really hope this is a misprint. Last I checked water is in no danger of freezing at 86 degrees.. and off at 131?? Are we making hot tubs for the chickens?

I really like this de-icer/heater. It is priced at an excellent value. I have been trying several different types of these including immersion versions but i find this one the best. It is so simple to set up and easy to check that it is working. For my use, it is for goats water and i set it up on a stump which makes it just the right height. It has a plenty long and flexible cord which is protected too, which is important to me as goats can be nibblers. So, i use a plastic heavy duty bucket on top of this and it warms it gently but not too hot, so it's great for winter weather, although it is inside an unheated barn. So this is a great deal on a heater that works well.

Works just like you’d hope! But make sure you get the correct size, because if the plate is exposed it’s a bit hot to the touch. So far it’s holding up fine with my large 5gal plastic waterer, but only time will tell how the plastic does. Turkeys weren’t a huge fan of the metal at first but now don’t seem to mind. The cord length is great and it sits low profile under the waterer, so I don’t need to worry about tipping!

I got this water warmer for my stainless steel 5 gallon chicken waterer and so far it's been great! Temps have been dropping here in zone 7 and this warmer has been consistent at keeping our chickens water nice and warm when it gets below freezing. This water heater is working well, even in the last few days of sub zero temperatures. The cord has extra protection, which I particularly like. We do keep the water only about half full, so that the heater will keep the water thawed all of the way through. My ducks think I’ve provided them with a hot tub! :D The size works well for my larger rubber water dishes. This is a very good value to keep chickens (or in my case ducks) with a thawed water supply, is safer with the protected cord, and is a very nice size!
