I finally found my “Goldilocks” toaster! Because “this one is just right.” It took a long time because my criteria was so high. It had to have two long slots, not four. Accommodating thicker slices of bread and bagels was a necessity. Also, the occasional long and wide artisan bread slices. The build quality was important, because how many affordable (“cheap”) toasters are we willing to toss out before we get to the point where we want a serious appliance to do the work it should? Listen, I take my toast seriously! Multiple heat settings on this unit allow you to customize the color and texture you prefer on your baked goods. In our home, some of us like our toast dark and crunchy, some like it golden on the outside and softer on the inside, and some prefer it barely warmed through. With this toaster, everybody’s happy. The brushed stainless exterior housing matches well with the rest of the appliances in the kitchen and looks quite handsome out on the counter. My favorite feature on this toaster is the auto-lowering/raising capability it has. That’s right, just place your bread into the slots, press one button and it gently lowers into the heating chamber. Ta-da! When the toasting cycle finishes, it sounds a beep and the toast slowly rises up to be easily removed from the unit. I love that little touch of magic, especially in the morning. Overall, I love everything about this toaster. It ticked all the boxes on my wishlist, and then some. I realize it’s a bit pricey, but it’s worth it! UPDATE: It’s been a year and a half since we bought this toaster and I’m happy to report that it’s still operating perfectly.     • Good for a minute!
After a few months it just died- nothing!! DISAPPOINTING!! Initial review: Excellent toaster! It even pushes the toast UP for me. It’s clean and saves counter space plus you can fit half a sub roll in this puppy. As a good toaster should, it toasts pretty evenly!!!

This is a very nice toaster. The only complaint is that the first round is going to be lighter than the second round. I once had a kitchenaid, that was my only other toaster over $100, and the Kitchenaid made every slice the same exact toastiness. On this Kenmore, It's very nice to have two long slots. It's also nice to have the bagel mode and the option to only toast in the front slot. It's a power savings, but I doubt I would actually notice it in my electric bill. The best feature is the retractable cord. It's also the worst feature. When a family member likes everything to be clean and tidy, and retracts the cord, you must now pull it out when you want to use it.     • My dream toaster at last.
Finally, someone has put together all the best attributes of all the best toasters! ... it's called the Kenmore Elite Auto-Lift Long Slot toaster. I am so pleased and impressed with this toaster. I've had long slot toasters before but they only ever had one slot. This one has two!...(with the option of only heating the front slot when needed.) The color selector is digital and consistantly delivers exactly the toasting level I would expect. Plus there's a timer to show how soon my toast will be ready. There's even a quick look feature that allows me to check the doneness. That feature is more helpful than it might seem at first. The toast pops up for a second, then lowers back down (on its own) to continue the cycle. This toaster is solid and has very little plastic. The construction is well thought out and very well fitted together, nearly eliminating anywhere for bread crumbs to collect except in the removable crumb tray at the bottom. Kudos to Kenmore and the people that designed this toaster. It has a 5 year warranty, but I sure hope it lasts much longer, because this is proving to be the best toaster I've ever owned.     • It’s good but for the money not sure
It toasts well! Love the automatic lever free action for items getting toasted. But one side toasts a lot more than the other side esp once you get to settings 4 or higher. I like my breads well toasted both sides and hence a bit disappointed. I plan to keep it though for lot of other perks!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this toaster! and so does my Hubby. Yes it's a little pricey but worth every penny. Has all the settings we need including a "raise check" so you can see it the toast is toasted to the degree you want it, it's quiet, has a led count down and beeps when finished.     • Extremely Disappointed
After years of using a very inexpensive toaster, I thought I'd buy an upgrade. At first, I couldn't seem to get the right color of toast between 4 and 5, the first couple of times I used it. I didn't use it for a couple of weeks and just started using it again the last couple of days. It now toasts one side of the bread and burns the other side. The inside burner on the inside of the front slot is the culprit. Since it's too late to return, I'm going to trash it and go get another inexpensive toaster. ... show more

    • Wonderful features, but...
Great toaster overall, but it does cook unevenly. One side of the toast is always more brown than the other side, and the ends of the bread slices burn before the middle part has finished toasting.
