This watch is for sports and health monitoring. I love that it's really minimal and I wear it around without the phone. The GPS has been fairly good in the city and I have used with to map my Kayaking trips. It's has pretty good battery life for a watch that isn't massive with a circular shape. I would say it's one of the least ugly smart watches out there. I find I get a good use of it to track my sleep. I don't find it uncomfortable to have it on at night and I have very small wrists. The whole watch face actually spans the thickness of my wrist, I couldn't find another watch with the same functions any smaller.     • Great Upgrade from Baro 9

After using my Suunto 9 Baro for six years, I decided to try the Suunto Race. I was looking for a better experience with the watch face (better visibility) and for a better heart rate capture (no more wild jumps, or having to wear the watch in the exact spot with the exact pressure). So far, I’m impressed with both. The screen is very easy to view and has all of the features you expect from Suunto. The heart rate monitor seems to be WAY more accurate as I haven’t experienced the same crazy heart rate swings I would see on my Suunto 9 Baro. For instance, I would walk with my old Baro and at times the readout would say my heart rate was 200+ beats per minute. With this accuracy also comes better calorie burn metrics. Let’s just say, I will need to reduce the calorie intake using this watch rather than the Baro 9. In short, I would say that it’s essentially the same watch, feel, size (slightly smaller height)) as I had before with some of the more annoying features of the old watch worked out. I will still use the Baro 9, but only when I’m afraid I will damage the new watch, like when I mountain bike. There was one issue where the watch disconnected from my Suunto App and it took me about an hour to figure out what was happening. Not only do you have disconnect the watch from Bluetooth, forget the watch on your Bluetooth list on the phone and one more step. Buried deep in the “connectivity” folder of the watch, you’ll find an additional connection to the app to your phone. You have to also disconnect this, otherwise the app won’t allow to connect after a soft reset. ... show more

Summary - I really like it as a sports watch, but some things annoy me enough to mention. Pros Performance - touchscreen, gps and navigating through the watch are excellent Battery life - with one 30min activity per day I only need to charge it once a day for about 15mins Screen - great quality, brightness, etc for a watch Cons I've contacted Suunto support about these. They were very polite, but ultimately could not solve either. I don't want to return the watch so I'm living with the drawbacks by choice. Updates reset all of your activity settings. Every. Time. "Feelings" in particular, where it asks how you feel at the end of an activity. There's no global setting to turn this off. It has to be set per activity, and it has to be set on the watch, at the end of the options list. Ill happily add the 5th star if this gets fixed. VO2 max - it doesn't matter how many times I run, effort level, or how tight the watch band is, it calculates my VO2 max at 49 every time. I trail run and street run, I'm not in great shape (avg 9min miles for three mile runs), it seems really unlikely the v02 max is accurate. Overall I really like this watch. I won't be looking for an alternative, but when it's time to get a new one I'll be evaluating other brands if they can't fix the preferences getting erased at every update. ... show more

This is my favorite watch. The charge last for several days (5+). The screen is the best I have seen. It is light and easy to wear. I just bought the new Apple Ultimate Watch 3. It is very nice but feels like wearing a brick on your wrist and it has a very short battery life. This is the best watch I own. Not to big and not to small. Just right! ... show more
