Update 9/29/25 KastKing sent me a free replacement rod and reel. Great customer service. I am anxious to get out and see how it performs. Original Review: From all appearances this is a beautiful rod and reel combo, but looks can be deceiving. The rod snapped on the first outing setting the hook on descent fish. Makes sense when they ship is with two tips because then are junk. I do a lot of backcountry fishing and this is not a rod durable enough to trust at a municipal pond. I returned this rod and the other Kastkings rod I ordered. The reel is quite nice, but I can’t help but wonder how long it would stay that way given the performance of the rod. I recently got back into fishing, i decided i wanted to try a bait caster reel out, and i have been extremely happy with this budget set up. Even being a beginner to bait casting reels this one was easy to get the hang of, i used it throughout the summer and fall without issues, never having to replace my nice braided line. smooth casting much further than any of my spinning reels, with great accuracy. The rod itself has been sturdy through all of my abuse, and has great sensitivity for detecting bites. Its a good rod and reel combo for the money. I liked mine, so I bought a second one for my son. It casts well and reels in smooth. The rod has decent action. One word or warning though, the tips can break fairly easily, but they do include a spare tip.

This combo far exceeded my expectations. I love fishing and I try to go a few times a month. I needed something light and durable since I can be a little rough on my gears. This rod feels very nice, the fact it comes with an extra tip piece will be insurance that it will be lasting for a long time. The reel is very smooth. For the price, I was not expecting it to be performing this well. I mean most of my fishing reels alone cost more than this combo. It’s a cheap fishing pole but it cast good operates accordingly and catches fish! Been using the heck out of this thing this season and it’s still working just fine and having no issues. There’s glued in or press in red buttons on the hand crank on the reel and one of those got damaged either by my own neglect or just came out. Doesn’t affect the operation of it. Pole has great feeling and handles 25lbs braided string awesome. Well worth buying the combo ... show more

Love it! 7'3" medium heavy rod. I have a Spartacus II with matching rod at 7'6" so this is a great addition. Picked up the 28" pike out of the water after quickly getting him in. Plenty of flex at the end to cast out and keep the fish on, not super stiff. Seems plenty durable. Everything was shipped great! Used it quite a bit, even with a bobber for some 3lb small mouth (yeah probably overkill). Easy to cast with 8 magnets, especially the lighter lures. Edit: Still love the setup. You do have to be a little bit careful with the tip. I did just snap mine, however it was not due to quality and product. I can admit when I did something stupid but I at least got the fish in. ... show more
