Things I liked about these chalk pastels: - Vivid colors on the page that are true to the chalk color. - Super blendable (with a finger or charcoal blending tool) - Nice packaging Stuff to watch out for: - White stick isn't opaque when layering. These HARD PASTELS have good color transference onto media and feel good in hand. The color choices available in this set covers all bases for creating beautiful works of art. I wanted to introduce pastel to my children, and this seemed like the perfect set for beginners. It is very reasonably priced for a large number of pastels. Unfortunately, several of the pastels came broken. They are very dry and brittle... not wet like better brands. There was quite a bit of dust on these that need to brushed off. They don't seem to blend as easily as more expensive sets either. All that said, I still think this is a good inexpensive set for beginners. ... show more

These soft pastels are nice. There are a lot of color choices which is nice. A few of mine were already broken, sucked because I couldn't break them but I wasn't shocked. They seem to blend well or stand out against each other depending on how you decide to use them. I posted a quick sketch where I sort of blended the background but kept the mountain defined. The sketch is on cheap watercolor paper at 300 GSM. Not amazing paper so I was shocked the blending came out decent for a quick sketch. ... show more

These are fun to play with but they feel a lot like chalk to me maybe that's the point. I've had oil pastels before so this was kind of different. I had multiple sticks come broken, but that doesn't make them any less useful. They will work fine. I am not sure if I like them, but they do have a lot of vibrant color to the page, They are kind of blendable but not as blendable as I would like- once you blend them it's hard to draw over top of it again. They tend to crumble if you press too hard, but they are hard and dry so I guess you have to get used to how to use them to make them work and be one with the pastel. I imagine they will run out fairly quickly. Great for starter sets, practice, adding different layers of media to projects, small projects, and more. ... show more

I am a novice at using chalk, but wanted to try working with these soft pastel chalk sticks. I wasn't sure what to expect in regard to softness – these are definitely softer/creamier than regular chalk but still retain a chalky property. The colors are bright and blend well. I blended them with my finger and with a blending stump. I used the chalk pastels on charcoal paper (I didn't have any pastel paper/board) and the charcoal paper provided some 'tooth' for the chalk to adhere too...I was able to do several layers. I am not a fan of the feel of the chalk in my hand/fingers, but I guess that is a personal issue. Overall, they worked as I anticipated. ... show more

24 colors at this price is a very good value. My only disappointment was that five chalks arrived broken. That doesn’t affect their performance but might make them less desirable for gifts. I’m a paper crafter and I like using chalks with cotton balls. I rub the cotton ball on the chalk and then transfer to paper. These chalks transfer and blend very well. These “soft” pastels are of the “hard” variety. They are similar to nupastel and the colors are gorgeous. They blend nicely and don’t crumble in your hand. There is a coating on them so some seem too hard until you get past that coating. I was not able to find any lightfast ratings on these, so I won’t use them in finished pieces.
