I bought this same set for my son many years ago. Now he bought them as a gift for a friend. They are amazing. If you have a person in your life that draws, enjoys coloring or is just starting, these are the pencils to use. If the price seems too high, they sell smaller boxes to start out. But in the long run, this is really a money saver. Also they are named and numbered. So if a favorite color is becoming a nub, you can find singles at (won't name "begins with M") craft stores. ... show more

First, the pencils arrived a bit later than the estimated date given. They were packaged well and when opened perfect and exactly what I expected. I am using these pencils to draw a series of different horses for my father. Each horse drawn will be of horses he has owned and/or ridden in his younger cowboy days. I began to use a different brand of pencils, but was not able to blend my colors as well as I would have liked, so I ordered the Prismacolor Premier colores pencils. I have used this brand of pencils in the past when they were under the name “Berol” and really loved working with them. These particular ones do have a soft lead and cannot easily be erased once applied. Also, because they have soft lead, the pencil is worn down faster than pencils with harder lead. After finishing the first drawing, I will need to replenish a few browns and the black before drawing the next horse in the series. So, basically, these pencils are working out great and I would recommend them. Do find where you can buy individual pencils to have back-up on the colors that you tend to use more than others. It will save you time and frustration. If using this type of pencil for the first time, invest in some blending stubs, a couple of good erasers (not pink!), a few (to start with) hard lead pencils for sketching, and some good quality acid-free art paper. You won’t be sorry. There are cheaper brands of colored pencils, but remember that most cannot be blended well and the colors are less vivid. This Prismacolor 150 act. Set of colored pencils is a thing of beauty. The packaging is beautiful and presents in a stunning manner. I often just sit and look at them. I've had the 48 ct. Set for years and always wanted this one. For 100 dollars the value is undeniable. Especially because even on wish this set goes for over 200 dollars. I am beyond thrilled. The colored pencils themselves are top notch. The pigment is rich and smooth to apply. Great for shading and mixing colors as well as dark lines and fill-ins. This is not your average colored pencil.     • Superior Colored Pencils
These pencils are fun and easy to use. It is very easy to blend the colors, and they are very vibrant. The only drawback is that the lead is very soft and breaks often. It’s best to use a high quality eyeliner pencil sharpener on them.
