Why did you pick this product vs others?: I wanted to wait a bit before I reviewed this product . have used K&N products for years but I was skeptical that a reusable filter could actually do a good job. This is a great filter , and feels like a quality product. The frame is sturdy and fits into the vents well , the filter is made of quality material and catches dirt, dust and pet hair as good if not better than the disposable ones you have to toss every 2-3 months. Cleaning it is simple just wash it and let it dry or blow it off. It has held up great so far , it actually seems to work a bit better after a few washes. I’m pleasantly surprised there are still good quality products out there to make life a little easier. ... show more

This filter has been going strong for years and the filter media is on par with the disposable ones, if not better. I don't have any scientific measurements, but this filter is performing its duty as advertised. It fit according to the measurements, but one must account for nuts/screws that are along the inner edges of the vent port because this filter has a hard plastic frame that is not forgiving; in my case, I had to force one edge of the filter by smacking it when a hammer in order for the filter to be seated correctly, not a big issue, but just one thing to note. Want to stop buying filters? Get one of these. They're reusable, and sturdy. If you're wondering, MERV is: Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values, or MERVs, report a filter's ability to capture larger particles between 0.3 and 10 microns (µm). And this one is a MERV 11 which is in microns: 0.30-1.0 greater than or equal to 20% 1.0-3.0 greater than or equal to 65% 3.0-10.0 greater than or equal to 85% In effect, the higher the MERV rating, the better the filter. This one is suitable for most households. I have 8 dogs and 3k sqft house. Seems to be doing a decent job. Buy the cleaner (sold seperately), as its not included with the filter. Then just keep an occasional eye on the filter (I check once a month). I finally cleaned it after about 2 months. Saves having to remember to buy filters, so it was a win in my book. And... its K&N, so its built and works perfectly! Buy with confidence! ... show more

These filters are great. I do remodeling and whenever I can, I buy one for the project and leave it for the Owner when I'm done. Easy to clean daily when needed and picks up fine dust very well. The only issue I have is that every time the AC shuts off, it falls into the support bracket and makes a "clack". If you end up getting this, I recommended adding some thin foam to both sides. On the top side, it will make a better seal with your AC and on the bottom, it will muffle the "clack" ... show more

I have always used K&N products for all of my motor needs and was unaware they made them for the home. We have a 2000 square-foot home with large ceilings up in the mountains and we have a brand new baby. I noticed the air quality difference a week after the install, K&N has done an amazing job at quality air filtration for our home not only do I never have to buy another air filter ever again, but I can trust that the quality that K&N brings to my motors brings to my home and I will absolutely recommend this product to anyone that is sensitive to dust, pollen or has a small child or is sensitive to anything but cleanliness this is the filter you want to get. I live in an older duplex & can never find the size filter I need. When I found this one on special I grabbed it! It works well, is tough, & I can just wash it & keep using it! No more hunting for my odd ac filter size! YAY!!!

    • Restrictive on air flow. Causes system to work harder

Air conditioning installer and city inspector said these K&N air filters are too restrictive and actually cause AC to work harder to pull the air through the fabric of the filter, making the AC work harder and less efficient. Sadly, I am removing them and replacing them with regular disposable filters. The AC company who installed my new system and the city inspector both said that you should be able to see thru the filter which means it is able to pull air efficiently into the system. Since installation I have noticed that when the AC kicks on the filters would slam up against the inner frame due to the vacuum pull of the system. Never put much attention to it but now it makes sense. The system is starving to pull air into it but the filters are too dense and restrict the easy movement of air flow. Air does not come out of registers throughout the house as strong as it did before the filters. Now I'm wondering about all of the K&N filters I also have in all of my vehicles and wonder if it's taking the same negative effect. I'm sure they're great at filterimg but too much can be bad. ... show more
