I had been looking at machines for over a year, before deciding on this model. It scores high for portability, the presser foot lifter (which will work in either automatic or manual mode), the larger throat space, and the box feed. It also comes with many accessories and feet in the box. I have used it now for several months, it was an early birthday present for me. I was looking at, and could have purchased, much more expensive models, but this one has great bang for the buck. It feeds very smoothly, straight and even, and is very quiet at slower speeds and still not loud at top speed. A bonus is that it uses generic feet (yes, even those 32 piece cheapies you find on amazon!), and class 15 bobbins, which are widely available. The auto threader does work better with Organ needles however, it sews just fine with Schmetz or other needles. The threader works every time with Organ needles, but I usually have to thread manually with other brands of needles. Along with a great selection of feet is the great selection of stitches, including a quick, direct select, quarter inch setting that will work with the edge of the regular sewing foot - this is great if you need a quick quarter inch guide but don't want to switch feet. It does also come with a quarter inch piecing foot, I get really accurate seams with either method. When I do patchwork piecing, my points now match up so much better, with less shifting and I don't have to pin so much - I absolutely love the way it feeds. There are other features that help in precision sewing and piecing. When topstitching, I can press and hold the needle up/down button and it will stitch very slowly, great when going around curves or coming up to an intersection. I use this machine a lot for handbags and wallets, and the precision sewing along with the strong piercing power make this ideal for those thick layers - it is not as strong as an industrial, but definitely stronger than many other domestic machines I've used before. I was prepared to spend almost double what this machine cost for some mid-range models of Janome, Pfaff, or Viking, but am very happy with this purchase, I would recommend to anyone looking to step up to a more modern machine with extra features. The best sewing machine for garments making: very efficient, precise stitching, fast, simple to use. It far overpasses my Babylock Ellisimo gold for sewing garments. To get acquainted to the machine, I made a sample of every stitch, and of every functions offered by this machine. WOW ! It is very pleasant to customize the functionalities (eg.: selection of the stitch patterns by light touch, subtle selection sound, tried all possibilities for the foot control, knee lift, adjustable starting and reverse speeds). There is no waste of time with this machine: everything is set up in a breeze. The main presser foot worths a lot by itself: very easy to get a precise stitching, the distances on the throat plate are indicated from the center of the foot, and no need for another presser foot for topstitching with a straight stitch. I can adjust every stitch (width, length) in real time with the dials while sewing (very useful and fast for ending darts). Using the straight stitch slide plate is quite a pleasure: very fast (instead of unscrewing the whole plate in my Ellisimo), and there is no danger of doing the mistake of sewing a zigzag stitch in that small hole because the machine allows only the straight stitches. And, perfect straight stitches in a sample of light charmeuse silk, without any need of a stabilizer. If it happens that the stitch patterns (eg. letters, words, flowers, etc.) are unrecognizable at first try, there is a simple way to fix them: we just have to make an adjustment called " Adjusting the darning", and "voilà", like magic, without any need for a stabilizer ! The floating function is impressive: my sample was a sandwich of silk dupioni (slices of bread) and 2 layers cotton batting: WOW ! Perfect diamonds, no puckering at all, no need for the walking foot, all the stitch patterns allowed ! The buttonhole presser foot is very simple to use (no side lever), and very performant. Perfect button holes (even the manual buttonhole is perfect), 3 widths. I prefer the needle threader on the Juki over the one of Babylock Ellisimo. All the feet / bobbins of my Ellisimo, Singer quantum stylist, Brother are compatible (which I would not have bought if the juki would have been available many years ago). I also tried many Janome at a sewing center in my town, and none of them had as many advantages as the Juki.

It took me a long time to work up the courage to buy a sewing machine online and not test it out first. Juki machines have rave reviews for a reason, they just work. No fuss, no drama, just perfect stitches. If you are looking at a sewing machine, try reading reviews on them on PatternReview. Several of us have this machine and have reviewed it on there, plus there is a whole forum dedicated to the care and feeding of your new Juki. I was kind of lukewarm about this machine when I first started using it, but now I'm sold. If you are coming from a mechanical or minimalistic computerized machine, this machine may be overwhelming at first. There are a few things I wish it had that it doesn't (glass touch screen!!), and the stitch selection process might take a while to get used to, but once you get past that, you're golden. I recommend this machine to garment sewists, but it would probably work pretty well for a casual quilter. I think I hardcore quilter would probably prefer more harp space. This machine would be an excellent beginner machine--the price is decent, the quality is great, and you won't have to worry about "outgrowing" it. (Unless you get bit by the embroidery bug, but that's a whole 'nother machine.) It even comes with a lot of accessories that are actually useful, so you don't have to go out and buy a bunch of special feet or an extension table.

This is the first time I spent so much on a machine. I'm a well seasoned sewer, been sewing for 30 years. After merely 4 months major issues began. The bobbin case become loose and then jammed, which then messed up the timing on the machine. I reached out to Juki and the warranty does not include labor ,only parts. Well, most of the time it's labor that needs to be paid for with sewing machine issues, so don't even bother with the scam of a warranty #1 (oh wait I mean #2, because #1 is don't even bother to purchase the overpriced and underperforming Juki machines). So, back to the Juki warranty guys. I went back and forth with their service team for over a week, then they offered for me to mail it from CA to Florida (shipping NOT paid!). I mean seriously, like the machine really needs shipping across the US to add to it's problem. So, after no help from the service guys and ludicrous back and forth with no resolve and no acknowledgment that the machine broke way way too early for no reason other than being faulty. I then took it to a local shop and they warned me about Juki's and said these machines are always in the shop. They fixed the timing. Then again this week, the initial issue started up again, the bobbin case loose again and now it's running very loud. I really don't even know what to do because It feels like Ground Hog day and that I wasted an enormous amount of money without even having a machine that works, and no option to return. Hey JUKI or AMAZON I want a refund! This is absurd. Or a new machine! I've had $200 Kenmore's that I never even tuned up and they never broke. Why the heck did I even bother buying an expensive machine. Such a joke. Give me my money back!

I have only two issues with this machine...so I will write negative first. The bobbin directions result in the bobbin threads going under the bobbin. And if you get it to wind properly, the bobbin stops at 2/3s full sometimes. But I found if you use the extra piece not included in the numbers but obvious, then you have fewer issues. I also hold the thread up, which helps get it started. Second issue is the throat..it would be nice if it were just a little bit bigger. Now to the positives. This machine seems to be a work horse like my juki tl2000qi. But it does embroidery and fancy stitches. It has the advantage of the free float. And if I want to quilt using a stitch in the ditch foot, I don't need to do anything fancy..just put on the foot. It has the free float feature which means that if the fabric gets heavier, I just need it to free float. It is a breeze. I am quilting a king sized quilt on it now and while I find it exhausting because it is so big, except for needing the throat to be bigger, the machine handles it like a pro! I am so glad to have bought this machine!!

Let me start by saying that the Juki DX7 is one of 5 sewing machines that I currently own. It is by far my favorite at the moment. There were two reasons I decided to purchase this machine. The first was that my Janome could not sew through thick layers of fabric (like jean seams) and can't zig-zag without a multitude of problems. My old Singer can do the zig-zag with no problems, but the Janome was better for quilting. I didn't want to have to keep setting up the Singer just to do zig-zag stitching, and the throat on both the Singer and the Janome just wasn't as big as I would like when quilting. The Juki DX7 has been a dream to use with everything I have thrown at it so far. I have a lot to learn about using it, but two of the things I am absolutely thrilled with is the knee lift and the ability to program the foot pedal to do other things beside start to sew. It comes programmed with the back of the pedal being able to reverse the direction when sewing leaving your hands free. This is such a treat for me. I hated having to push the button and hold it when I needed to reverse direction on the Janome. I also love that the bobbin winder has a separate motor so you can wind a bobbin without having to unthread and rethread the machine. There are a ton of things that I haven't even had a chance to try yet. And did I mention the wide table insert? Fantastic! Shipping was super fast and the machine arrived in perfect shape. Juki really packs it well.

CraftyGemini recommended the Juki DX5. I bought the DX7 because it had a couple more features, but both are exceptionally awesome. Communicated with a person from World Weidner - Machine Embroidery Supplies and that Rep was super informative, patient, and answered all my questions. Love that the juki has a self cutter, runs quietly and smoothly, easy to operate, fast, has a self threader, a foot that automatically lifts up when you stop so you can use two hands to move your fabric and love the price. The Bernina that I originally looked at was $6000.00. My juki sewing machine arrived fast considering there were no sewing machine available on Oahu. The only reason I gave four stars for beginners is because the DX5 would probably be better choice for people just learning to sew. No matter what, be sure to purchase it from an authorized dealer for warranty purposes. Sad to say that after a couple of days, I realized the panel was broken. Emailed World Weidner - Machine Embroidery Supplies and without a question the rep told me to return it. The great news is they quickly gave me a full refund. I ordered a second one and so far it hasn’t disappointed me. The machine runs like butter. I would not want any other sewing machine besides my juki, it’s great for the price and even better than any high end brands out there. Highly recommended. Month later; I love my juki even more. Stitches over thick fabric and makes sewing fun.

Customers should be very aware about Juki's poor warranty. I purchased the machine and only used it a few times. It didn't sound quite right, but knowing there was a warranty, I figured the company would make it right. It never occurred to me to return it right away, which I should have. I needed a surgery, and after recovering and getting back to it. I contacted the local Juki dealership. They said they are authorized Juki, but only IF I PURCHASED THE MACHINE FROM THEM. WHAT? What kind of warranty is that? So I contacted Juki and they said they only warranty electrical problems. WOW, What kind of a limited warranty is that? An expensive machine, a lemon apparently, and no one honors any kind of warranty. Advice, know that buying online gets you NO REASAONABLE WARRANTY. I usually buy from Amazon because returns are easy, but I missed a 30 day window assuming that Juki warranty would cover the issue. If you do buy online, use it right away, knowing the warranty is worthless, so you can return it asap. What a hassle. i won't recommend Juki to anyone.
