We’re not campers—far from it. But in our late 60s, we decided it might be fun to give it a try and started looking for a rooftop tent for our Subaru Crosstrek. After doing some research, we found this tent on Amazon and, to be honest, chose it because it was the most economical option we could find. The tent actually arrived a day earlier than expected, which was a great surprise. We were excited to open it, but at first, we thought it was missing the ladder and mounting hardware. We reached out to support, and Kate promptly responded and sent the “missing parts.” Embarrassingly, we later discovered that the parts were inside the tent all along (woops!). We even offered to return the extras. Installing the tent on our Crosstrek was pretty easy, and we decided to take it on a one-night trial run before an upcoming weeklong trip. We headed out to the desert and set everything up. To our delight, the process was simple, and the tent’s features exceeded our expectations. My wife, who is not a camper, said several times how comfortable it was! We spent the evening stargazing and headed into the tent around 9 PM. At midnight, we were jolted awake by powerful winds. Our phone’s weather app reported a severe wind advisory in the Anza-Borrego Desert—sustained winds of 35–45 MPH, with gusts up to 65 MPH until 2 AM! Being new to camping (and cautious), we got into the car for a while to monitor the situation. Around 1:45 AM, the winds calmed, and we opted to return to the tent since it was far more comfortable than the car seats. But soon after, the wind picked back up—we had experienced the “calm before the storm.” The tent was tested by those 65 MPH gusts, and to our surprise, it held up beautifully. We stayed warm, dry, comfortable, and, most importantly, felt safe. We fell asleep as the winds blew and at 5 AM, we woke to sunshine and a light breeze. We originally bought this tent because it was affordable, thinking we might upgrade later if we enjoyed rooftop camping. Now, we don’t see the need for anything else—this is our tent. The quality of the closures, screens, sunshades, rainfly, ladder, compartments, built-in mattress, and overall stability (which really got tested!) completely won us over. We’re now genuinely excited for our weeklong camping trip, and we couldn’t be happier with this purchase. Highly recommend it!! ... show more
