I have a 36" opening for my window which I think is really standard, but as of this writing they only offer 35" or 46". I got the 35" figured it would fit. I started by trying to use the friction mounts. The tape on the rubber bumpers doesn't really hold it on in place, but you can just sort of place them as you mount the shade since they will be held in place with force. That said I couldn't get the 35" to quite expand enough to fill the gap of 36". It was barely holding. If my window opening were 1/4" smaller it would have worked. Even then having a 35" in a 36" opening the expansion only happens on one side of the shade, so the left side if flush with the window and there is a 1" gap on the right. If I had a 35" opening it would not have been as pronounced. In the end I screwed in the two supplied bracket and centered the shade and that works. Since this is a 35" in a 36" opening, there is a small gap on the sides that lets some light spill in. For my purposes and my window design this is completely workable. If you want a perfect fit for a 36" opening you will need to find a shade that is 36". That said, overall the ease of install and quality are good for the price. I wish that the brackets in my mounting configuration took two screws instead of one. But overall things are good and I'm getting a second one for the matching window in my living room.

If possible I will never purchase a standard blind again. These are so easy to install, just hold them up and tighten with the included tool and you're done. The only installation issue I had was the little rubber pads that they include don't stick to the ends where they're supposed to. Whatever type of tape they use it's not right for the type of plastic. I glued them on and that solved the problem. Being able to lower them like a traditional blind is great but the real bonus is having the functionality to lower the top as well so you can have the shade on the bottom part of the window, maintaining privacy, while still letting light in. The material of the shade feels a little thin but so far it's held up without issue. They are true blackout shades too and don't let any light through the shade. You'll want to make sure you get the right size though to prevent light leaking through the sides. That being said I ordered the 33" for a 33.5" window and should have just ordered the 34". I was under the impression that you needed to order a smaller size but after reviewing the product description it says the spring can extend out .76". The 34" would have fit perfect I think and allowed less light in the side. Not a problem with the product just something to keep in mind. Overall a great easy to install blind that reduces noise, insulates, and blocks out the light as advertised. The only issue is the little rubber end pieces. Why they don't just come installed I don't understand. It would have been a flawless installation if they simply stuck to the ends as designed.

We feel these are definitely worthy of 5 stars. The light blocking and heat rejection are better than expected. We used to have vertical shades, which always looked like something out of the industrial ‘80s, and we hated them. Over time, we tried different brands and styles before landing on these. We liked them so much that my wife put the honeycomb style in the bedroom and the pull-down heat/light rejection style in the rest of the house. We did notice a tradeoff: the honeycomb blocks heat slightly better, but it doesn’t block as much light as these. The difference was small—about 2 degrees—but even that is noticeable (80°F vs. 78°F in the bedroom). The only downside is the clips, which were a little loose and required some minor fixes. Other than that, they’ve worked out really well. These are keepers. YMMV.
