I got a call one evening, prior to the holidays. Check out this rolling pin, you NEED to buy it, my friend said. I have a rolling pin, what do I need with another one? This one has discs you add to the side to measure your dough thickness. The price was absolutely amazing! I scored it at a low, low price of $6.38! Yes, that's correct! A savings of almost $20! Now, let me just say, I love to bake - biscuits, breads, cinnamon rolls, etc. When recipe called for X inches I'd do one of two things - I'd either guess or I'd take a wooden ruler and measure - what a pain in the @$$. The beautiful thing about this rolling pin is that there is no more guess work involved. You just place the discs on for the thickness you need, and you roll out your dough - it's just that easy. The pin is just as easy to clean up as any other wooden rolling pin. I handwash the plastic discs, but I'm sure they could probably be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher. As for the only downside, because of the width of the rolling pin (13.5 in.) add a little when the discs are on, you can't roll out wide pieces of dough. Most of what I bake don't require rolling out over 12 inches, but for things like big batch cookies, we separate our dough and roll out, problem solved. I love this rolling pin and wish I'd bought more to gift when they were priced so low before the holidays. If I ever see them that cheap again, I will be sure to buy some to give as wedding presents or Christmas gifts!

I bought this rolling pin to be able to roll out my dough to the perfect, uniform thickness. Before my cookies would come out with different thicknesses between each cookie, but I don't have that problem anymore! The guides on the side of the rolling pin help you to achieve your perfect thickness so all your cookies come out the same. No more burnt edges and underdone cookies when taking them out of the oven! There are also measurement marks on the pin to help shape your dough to the perfect size. One thing that's odd and different than other rolling pins is that there are no handles. The rings on both sides of the rolling pin make it so there are no handles, and you can't comfortably put your hands there. You end up having to hold the rolling pin closer to the center, which is a bit odd at first, but you can get used to the new grip quickly. One idea for improvement is to add handles. There are end caps on either side to screw in and hold the rings in place, but you could easily screw in a handle instead if Joseph Joseph made one. You also have to change your technique for rolling your dough, because now your dough can never be wider than your rolling pin; the rings always have to touch the work surface. The Joseph Joseph rolling pin makes up for this by making the rolling pin much longer than other ones I've used. But, you still have to make sure that your dough doesn't become too wide. Overall I really like my Joseph Joseph rolling pin and will be using it for all my baking projects!

I'm only sad that I didn't get this years ago! It has made such a difference in my rolled Christmas cookies! They are all of the exact same thickness for the first time ever! This rolling pin is super easy to change the different thickness disc's, easy to use, and easy to clean. After hand washing, I dry the wooden rolling pin and rub with some vegetable oil on a paper towel to keep the wood conditioned. So much easier than rolling dough between 2 dowels, which I have tried in the past and gave up because of the hassel. I highly recommend this rolling pin to anyone who makes rolled cookies. I'm sure it will work great on homemade rolled pasta, puff pastry, pie crust, etc., but I haven't tried on anything other than cookies yet.

I would give this a 5 for the perfect pin with a few more options or design changes. I own two of these and have given several as gifts. Everyone raves about them after their first experience using one. These are absolutely the best pins out there for consistent dough thickness. If you do a lot of rolled cookies this is the miracle pin for you. I literally have a Rubbermaid of pins that I haven't touched since buying this @3 yrs ago. (My original had ugly grey rings and one less height ring option). I love that the rings are solidly screwed in between the end cap and wood pin. No sliding around or getting in the way. So much easier then those rubber rings. And super easy clean up. Genius design! My only regret (are you listening J&J?!) is there are no other options for this pin. Would love one with handles - It would be such a simple design change or even just give the option of buying the handles that would screw into the same holes? Also, Would love one that is longer for rolling wider dough. And possibly one that is a little fatter and heavier for heavy duty rolling - If I had to choose one other new design it would be a longer one with handles and a few more ring height options. The newest ones also have measurement marks right on the wood. Great for pie bakers. Wish they would continue to improve this!
