The eye cup helps to keep ambient light from the side from interfering with your view through the view finder. It also helps establish a fixed distance between the eye and the viewfinder. That helps me with the diopter enhancement and helps me with being sure my image is in focus. you could get along quite well without it, but for the price it does help and who wouldn't want help in making sure you have the correct focus? ... show more

What’s not to like. 2 different eye cups for the cost of half of one from other makers. Fits perfectly and gave me the opportunity to try both types. The material is soft enough but sturdy so you won’t have to buy another for a bit. The round one is great for super sunny days or bright environments. Arrived quickly, excellent fit for both eye pieces on my 80D. Note, that if you do use the full surround “cup” you will have some interference with tilting out your folding screen to the side if you have a camera that has one (tested on 80D). Perfect for blocking most light in bright environments and not that big of a issue for me, but could be a nuisances for some! Would buy again and will most likely since I always lose these darn things, however, fit is quite secure. ... show more
