Description

JET JWL-1840EVS, 18" x 40" Wood Lathe, 230V 1PH, 3,200 RPM (719600) Introducing the 1840EVS woodworking lathe from JET. Designed to be as versatile as you are in the shop this lathe features a headstock that slides the full length of the bed. The included four-inch cast iron risers allow you to easily choose the working height that maximizes your comfort. PSI Woodworking Products TM32 1/2-Inch Drill Chuck with 2 Morse Taper Arbor (1/2" 2MT) 2 Morse taper mount for Delta, Jet, PSI, and other Midi lathe headstocks and tailstocks. A 1/2-Inch diameter 3-jaw mechanism can be used for securing small turnings or pen mandrels at the headstock, or a drill bit in the tailstock. Accepts a 1/4-20" draw bolt (not supplied) for safety. Will hold drill bits up to 1/2-Inch in diameter. Drill chuck mounted in the 2 MT can be used in either the headstock or tailstock. Tightens with a chuck key(included) for excellent grip. Removed easily with a knock-out bar.

After much deliberation and comparison shopping, I landed on the Jet 1840. I chose it over other lathes in the same size/price range due to several factors that met my personal preferences/needs, as well as being greatly swayed in the end by the 5 yr warranty. Had it for over a month now, no regrets. Upgraded from a Nova Comet II, my 1st lathe. Wanted greater capacity/swing and more HP. Great machine I have a hard time imagining myself outgrowing. Overall, very happy with the 1840. I was a little disappointed in the finish/quality control on some cosmetic aspects. There was a significant amount of overspray from the white paint onto underside of bedways, etc, and the JET decal on front of lathe was misaligned where it stuck up above the bed a small amount. Would have interfered with banjo/tailstock if I hadn't trimmed with knife. Sandpaper and elbow grease took care of the overspray. Small cosmetic defects/oversights that don't affect the operation of the lathe, just somewhat disappointing for a machine close to $4000 after tax. ... show more

I have not used it much yet, however I have assembled it. It runs very smoothly and quietly. I ordered thru Acme Tool and it was shipped by Estes. Delivery was on time with no damage. This is a very heavy item and I would suggest at least 2 people to assemble and stand up. No unexpected hassles and it looks and sounds great. Very happy ... show more
