With the proper pots and pans it does heat up but adjusting the power is mandated to 20 to 40° increments I miss my gas stove so far I've only cooked a couple of meals at the very least it does get hot and if you keep your eye on it you won't burn what you're trying to cook it's better than the coil type hot plates by leips and bounds if you have the proper pots and pans that's going to take some getting used to it's actually harder to cook on than a smoker where you got to build your own fire but at least it works and it does get hot enough to boil water reasonably fast Would like to add tonight I attempted to make some spaghetti The sauce will not simmer because all of a sudden the little indicator goes EO and stops heating and the pasta only cooks about halfway before it goes EO and that is not on high power that is 300° allegedly but the temperature control is so inaccurate it jumps at 40° increments so you never know where you're at Never again!!!! ... show more

I got this for my kids to use when I am not home. I just don't trust them to use a gas oven. The burner is beautiful in person. It sets up directly from the box. You just have to screw on the 4 rubber feet, easy to do. My kids use it mostly to boil water which it does well. You can take this and place this anywhere there is an outlet.
