This is a well-made, sturdy garden auger. I scoured the reviews for similar items and I recommend you do the same, for the general lessons about this type of implement. As many customers have reported, these tools are generally only good in loose soil. Clay, or dry, compacted soil soil are a different story. I bought this set for the smaller of the two augers, which was the diameter I needed to plant some large garden bulbs. Among the many choices of augers I highly recommend this set because they are solidly built and stood up to the tough job. The hexagonal shaft is an essential plus because it won't spin in the drill chuck. I successfully used this item to plant two dozen bulbs into dense topsoil, cutting though ground cover in some spots. The tool did not disappoint! Pay heed to what others have warned, though: you need a serious drill for this task. I first tried using a good quality Craftsman cordless drill. Forget that idea! Half a rotation and it locked up. Luckily I still had a decades-old corded electric drill buried in my tool chest. I nearly even burned that thing out, but with some back and forth, and several reversals when the auger jammed up in the dirt, I got the job done. Bottom line: don't buy an auger thinking it makes the job easier by itself. If you have a major league drill with a side handle, and strong wrists, this will work.

plant very quickly while taking it easy on your back!!! bulbs, lilies and plants are a snap using these diggers...makes a uniform hole for ease of planting....very strongly built and painted high strength green paint color....firs cordless dril perfectly!!

The media could not be loaded. This auger set is well made and doesn't wobble or slip on drill. It goes right through small roots and even pulls up small rocks. I did sharpen the leading edge a bit which helps it cut through up to thumb diameter pine roots. In areas where there are no roots it makes a clean hole very easily not leaving any dirt in the hole. The small one in the set works great too , I can even use it on high speed with my drill. Very satisfied with the quality and function.

These augers, attached to my cordless drill, helped make the holes for burying my bulbs and plants almost effortless. Where I needed larger holes, I simply drilled three holes with the big auger. Then I was able to excavate out the soil easily. Also, it cut most of the roots in the ground I was digging in.
