An expert kayaker will say to spend a lot of money on a paddle -- carbon fiber for strength, lightweight, etc. But I think this is a fine paddle for most kayakers. At least it's fine for me and I do quite a bit of casual kayaking in still water. This one seems strong and, at only around 2 pounds, it's pretty lightweight. The description says "ideal length" but the length you want depends on your height and the width of your kayak (and I think 90 inches is probably better for most people, but this one is close at 87.4 inches). You can find recommended paddle length charts on the internet with a simple search. This paddle disassembles in the middle for easy storage, has 3 positions for angling the blades, has a plastic coating where your hands go (warmer than bare aluminum), and has drip catchers. ... show more
