  • Best trap I have used.
I have had chipmunk and mice issues since I have moved into my house. I have a smaller wild area in the corner of my lot and seems with all the neighbors feeding the birds the mice and chipmunk population has exploded. I have had all kinds of damage of stuff outside like patio storage containers, pool toys, pump hoses, and many others. The wooden mouse traps work good for mice but I needed something a little larger to handle chipmunks and this fit the bill. They are perfect for chipmunks but small enough I have been catching field and house mice in them. They are very easy to setup with a large cup to fill with peanut butter as attractant. I do find sometimes I do have to pull up on the trigger pad to get them to lock open. Once you figure this out it's very easy to set. I included a pic of the trigger point so you can see the trigger piece needs to slide underneath the latch. I have caught 20 chipmunks and a dozen mice on the same trap and it's still going. I would say this is one of the longest lasting and most durable trap I have used yet. Very easy to get them out of the trap as you just push the lever down and they come right out. I bought the covered model as I have dogs and wanted to keep them safe. So far my dogs have not been able to get into them and get hurt. I do rinse them off with the hose when they start getting dirty, which cleans them very well without any work. I would buy thsrs again and actually have 4 of them now as they have outlasted any of the wooden ones I have used so they actually pay for themselves over time. So far I have only had 2 misses, every time it's tripped there is something in it. With the coveree version it seems every time it rains I get one. Buy one if you have some large populations of rodents. ... show more

  • Quickest trap ever
Chipmunks have been driving us crazy every day getting in the wall scratching for stuff for months. Saw the reviews on this trap and purchased three. Very hard to open but easy to set. Took the recommendations of others to only put a little bit of peanut butter in the bottom of the cup and VOILA! within in 1 hour both chipmunks fell for it. Really hated to do this because they are adorable, but they caused a lot of damage to the foundation. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. ... show more

  • It just works!
This thing works! Baited with peanut butter and out of 11 caught, it has killed 10. The one negative is the Label that shows if the trap is set or has gone off is poor & unreadable after one rainstorm.

  • Humane, easy to use, easy to clean.
Took a few days for it to take the peanut butter bait, but I got the chipmunk that's been destroying my yard. Extremely easy set-up anf clean-up. I've seen some reviews saying it didn't kill their rodent. Without getting graphic, I can say without a doubt, that chipmunk didn't even know he died when he set it off and went humanely. ... show more

  • Worked in trapping HOWEVER....
We bought two of these traps because we have chipmunks that dig right against our house each year. Last year we hired a company to get rid of them (which was expensive) and they ended up coming back. This year I purchased these two traps hoping to quickly catch the two chipmunks that started digging three large holes near our house. We put the traps out in the morning - caught one by 5pm that same night. However, the chipmunk did not die inside the trap. It was thrashing around until dark that evening. The next morning it was still moving a little. So clearly not an instant kill trap. At that point (the next day) I tried to lift the claw in the trap from he opposite side, since I really didn't know what else to do. When I raised the claw it turned its body in and that motion ended up killing him. At this point it was a bit traumatic. We thought maybe this was a freak accident and decided to bait the second trap because there was no way it could end worse than that one. WRONG. Baited the second trap, by the next morning, we caught the second chipmunk. EXCEPT this one thrashed so much inside the trap that it broke the latch on the cover and flipped the cover wide open. So now we can see the entire scene underneath. And its not dead AGAIN. Maybe we received defective traps, I am not sure. However, I think its important for others to know this can happen. ... show more

  • Doesn’t kill rats
I heard the trap go off last night. Went out this morning to empty the trap and the poor rat was still alive. I had to kill it myself. I do not recommend this trap. It does not kill and causes unnecessary suffering.

  • Did what it needed to do, fast and easy
I thought I had a chipmunk under the porch. It turns out it was a ground squirrel and I'm glad I had the Eaton 408 rat model (as opposed to the 409 mouse model). If it isn't obvious, the 408 is a 410 with a cover. A few highlights: -The trap and cover are separate, so if the traps wears out it can be replaced with a 410 without needing to buy another 408. -The cover holds everything steady inside so there is no worry of catching yourself (or your kid) -The trap is easy to set and reset with the cover closed using just a thumb pinch. -The trap keeps the rodent inside so you don't have to see it and you don't have to worry about it running away (I read some 410 reviews where they suggested tying down an uncovered trap) -I don't have evidence, but based on 410 reviews and looking at the design I also assume channeling the rodent in through the hole of the cover also aligns it's head for a better kill (no glancing blows from the side) -It is a lot easier to discretely carry the dead rodent for disposal in a black plastic box than it is carrying the carcass dangling by the head in a loose trap. ... show more
