  • This is the ultimate FLY TERMINATOR!
Style: 20W Bug Zapper + 2x10W Bulbs
Wow! You know, I really wanted to provide a video of how well this Aspectek 20W Bug Zapper works, but seconds after plugging it in -- and I do mean seconds -- it killed its first fly. Within a minute, two more. It happened so fast that I couldn't even put my iPhone into video mode to capture it. So allow me to go back in time for a moment... I have had a huge fly problem in my home for quite some time. The problem is people and pets coming in and out of the house. The flies just flock into my home and they are all over the kitchen. I bought one of those battery-operated fly swatters, but using those require a lot of patience. You have wait for your prey to land on something and then hope that you can actually swat the fly before it flies off. When I felt "enough was enough" and that the problem was getting out of control, I poured over Amazon reviews for days looking for the perfect electronic bug zapper. This one from Aspectek seemed to have consistently great reviews. Upon taking it out of its packaging I noticed that it was extremely lightweight. It's also well packaged in the box with a nice amount of bubble wrap covering the unit to avoid damage. Additionally, the plug and bug tray are secured with locking tie wraps. You should have no concerns about your unit arriving damaged. The Bug Zapper comes with a small chain that latches on to side hooks. That was a nice bonus. I actually opted to hang this on an abandoned plant hanger in my dining area. Once unpacked, you simply insert the fly tray into the bottom of the unit and turn it on. It's that simple to have it set up within minutes of unpacking. Upon turning on the power, two black bulbs instantly light. As I mentioned earlier, it took mere seconds for me to see positive results. Loud crackles told me that it had captured its first fly. Indeed, there was a fly hopping around in the tray. It had lost one of its wings during the zapping process. It was going nowhere. Two more flies were instantly killed within a minute later and their dead carcasses were deposited into the tray. All I had to do was remove the tray and deposit the bodies into the trash. Yes, I have noticed that some flies do get stuck in the mesh. However, the mesh is electrified and the flies eventually are zapped dead. Yes, this does make a rather loud crackling noise, but it's not to the point where it's really going to make anyone jump. Really, there is more satisfaction to the sound than negativity. I understand from some reviews that bulb life is not optimal. There are very good instructions included on what kind of replacement bulb to buy and how to replace it. I suggest keeping those instructions in a safe place. One tip I can provide: unless you have a huge problem in your home, don't keep this running for hours on end. You can keep it running for 30 minutes a day and get rid of your fly problem. Remember: the flies come to IT. For automated homes, I suggest buying a WEMO plug. I just tell Amazon Alexa to "turn on bug zapper" and the unit automatically turns on. I also turn it off with a similar command. WEMO plugs also work with Siri. You know why this is so great? You can be sitting in your easy chair, be bothered by a fly or similar pest, and simply command your bug zapper to turn on without having to leave your seat. It's so wonderful knowing that your investment has paid off mere minutes after unwrapping. For this thing to work so quickly and effectively gives me immense satisfaction. This bug zapper not only works, but it does so tremendously well. ... show more

  • Still The most efficient bug zapper I have ever owned after four years of use.
Style: 20W Bug Zapper
Update 8/7/25 Out of the many bug zappers I have tried, I am very glad to have discovered this brand. I have been given other brands to test out and several companies have tried to copy this brand, but other brands have fallen way short to the durability and performance in killing bugs like the Aspectek brand. My two older versions are about four years old and still work. Since the other brands are so inferior, I feel compelled and am willing to spend the extra time to tell how great this zapper is. I just tried their newest LED version of this bug zapper, but when I hung my two older zappers next to the new LED version, I observed that the older version zapped about twice to three times as many bugs. I will post a recent picture of my four year old zapper hanging next to an LED version to show what I am talking about. The pictures show ONE night’s worth of bugs. Beware that if you live in a heavily bug infested environment like I do, you will have to clean the grids each day. Because of this huge difference in performance, I just bought another brand new older version that still uses the fluorescent 10 watt tubes. I will be returning the LED version back. Yes, with the older version I have to replace my tubes about every year, an additional cost, but I want efficiency in killing bugs. The difference in the new version is that there is a new brace that screws the two outer safety grids together. I suspect that the reason is that the older style outer grids are difficult to snap into place and I have to pry them with a flat screwdriver to release. Since my older versions are around four years old, I do not remember the electrocution grids being so shiny made of stainless steel like the new one I just bought. The newest version does have narrower grid openings. Older version has a outer grid opening of 5/16 wheras the newest version has a 1/4 inch opening. This difference in grid openings will hinder larger bugs from entering. I have yet to compare the new old version to the old, four year’s old version. I hope you appeciate the comprehensiveness of this review. Original (old) product review: I am in my seventies and have purchased many bug zappers. It is difficult to find a robust zapper that not only has an effective electrocution grid, is easy to clean, and also has an effective set of lights that draw bugs and last a decent amount of time. I like that this zapper is about a third the price of the out door models I have purchased in the past that have died after one season’s use. The snap sound is about twice the volume of my outdoor models. The unfortunate handicap with this unit is that it must be used out of the weather. I am impressed with its sturdiness, and especially its high voltage electrocution grid. I know the electrocution voltage is high because it makes a startling loud, SNAPPING sound when an insect hits its grid. This can startle anyone close by and my dogs jump when the bug zapper snaps. The grid is sturdy and the spacing is narrow enough to easily kill flies and mosquitoes. I live in east Texas, out in the country where we get a decent amount of rain and livestock are close by to breed flies and mosquitoes. I have chickens that have suffered from annoying mosquitoes. The picture I posted shows my birds on their roost. They tolerate the loud snaps from insects being killed. I liked this zapper so much that I bought another one I will be installing on my patio. My main concern is how long the light and zapper grid will last. If this zapper prematurely fails, I plan to update this post. I was going to buy some smaller ones of this brand, but saw that several have posted that the lights burn out quickly. The main negative I have for this zapper is the electrical cord is inconveniently, way too short. For first impressions, I am very pleased. ... show more

  • Love this bug zapper!
Style: 20W Bug Zapper + 2x10W Bulbs
Love this bug killing machine! We live in an RV with dogs going in and out constantly. Flies and skeeters flock into our RV. We’ve battled then with all the usual methods, then my daughter showed me her bug zapper and I ordered one. No more bugs! Lots of zaps and I have to clean the pull-out tray fairly often, but it’s a chore I enjoy doing due to seeing all the dead bugs. I will say that the ad states that it comes with 4 bulbs. Mine only had two that burned out after a year. I ordered the Shooting Star bulbs for replacement and they work beautifully. Just like the original bulbs did. My husband didn’t even realize I had replaced them as they are the same shade and brightness. EXACTLY. And my bug zapper is a killing machine again! Note: When you replace the bulbs, ensure you twist them far enough after insertion. If you do not, they will indeed flash, not burn, or blow. I think that is the reason for so many bad reviews on the bulbs and for some of them here cuz this thing is the greatest! ... show more

  • Very good but loud
Style: 20W Bug Zapper + 2x10W Bulbs
Great for country living! Pros: cost and effectiveness. We find lots of little insects and flies that have been zapped. Very effective! Cons: when something is zapped, it is so loud. People usually jump when it’s a fly for example. Also little kids can touch through the grid so be careful. Overall: worth it if you can ignore the loud zaps. It’s been helpful during country summers! ... show more
