I love the fact that this lightweight sewing machine is easy to use. Does all the basic stitches straight stitch and zigzag plus a few more. The needle threader is easy to use, and it’s easy to switch out pressor feet. All around it was like using a full size machine in a smaller version. If a person is an experienced sewer or a beginner this machine will serve the basic needs for quilting or for sewing clothes. Because it is so portable and lightweight I have used it for both on extended vacations to visit family. I taught my 11 year old niece to sew with this Janome Mod-19. I like it so far. Nice stitches with enough variety to do what I need. I rarely use decorative stitches, usually just straight and zig zag. I don’t like having to use a screwdriver to remove the foot attachment. First thing I did was to replace the screw with a thumbscrew I already had. I have many feet that are not snap on and want to use them easily. I have been using my original machine for 60+ years and will be keeping it for thick fabrics like hemming jeans, it’s an all metal machine and will sew anything you ask it to. I needed a reliable zig zag machine, and I loved my previous Janome Sewist (moved along long ago) so I ordered this. It skipped stitches and couldn't make a proper zig zag. I removed the cover plate and bobbin case and could see clearly the needle/hook timing was way off, but there was no way for the user to fix it. So I sent it back for a replacement, which worked fine for one day and then...same problem. I replaced the needle. I replaced the thread. The defect got worse and worse ( see photo). So I'm returning this one and whatever I replace it with will not be a Janome Mod. ... show more

What a great little machine. I biught this machine for quilting classes and it is serving me very well. Easy ti carry and use. Winding bobbins and threading the machine are straightforward and easy. My main machine is computerized so it took me a minute to get used to needing to use the presser foot lever and also needing to use the hand wheel to put the needle up and down, but within minutes I was humming right along. Great stitches. And never an issue going through several layer of fabric with seams. Very happy with this machine. ... show more

This is a really nice sturdy sewing machine. It has been a few years since I have been able to own a machine… my old one wasn’t working well at all, always bunching up the threads; it got me so annoyed one day that I ditched it in the trash. A friend told me about this brand, I researched and checked all of the reviews before making the purchase and I am very pleased with it.
